Hi - am currently looking to find out where or if there any reliable and quality HSPA+ routers availible for anyone in ireland. Preferably one with a good internal antenna and sim card slot and noted for good wifi range. I like my b260a but i have HSPA+ here now (tested it using a mifi modem thats capable of 21.6mbps max HSPA+ - clocked about 10-12mbps) so am wondering if there is a good solid proper router out there with HSPA+?

    Any help is appreciated :D

I've been using the Sierra Wireless GX400 with great success. It doesn't have onboard wifi so that might rule it out for you. The HelixRT is also good but tops out at HSUPA.

If an all-in-one unit is what you want, perhaps try the Globesurfer III+?

Any other suggestions folks? Any local retailers or irish/uk online retailers of any products like this?

The Vololinks are pricey but they get good reviews. D/L with the VA126 tops out at 42Mbps. Two external antennas for the WAN side and an internal antenna for the wireless end. Not sure if I'm allowed to post links here but you should be able to find UK sellers easily enough.

Just looked it up - damn expensive - is there no quality HSPA+ router solutions for a decent price? Seems to be a massive gap in the irish market for one at the moment :(

    Hi Warlikedave
Besides the Dovado 4GR which works well for me on O2 (not for 3 however) the only others I can see are for HSPA+ are:
    Netgear Router MBRN3000 3G/4G Mobile Wireless-N Route
    or
    Billion BiPAC 6200NXL Dual-WAN 3G Wireless-N Broadband Router (300Mbps)

Both would be used with a dongle rather than onboard sim. The Netgear doesn't seem to have had a firmware update for a while, so I'm tempted to get the Billion myself to use for my 3 network. Haven't been able to find anone who has this combination yet though to verify.

    Hope that helps.

Can someone explain to me the advantage of getting a Dovado 4GR over something like the o2 hotshot USB router?

The O2 hotshot I believe has a restriction of only connecting up to 5 devices.
Its singleband as well, where as the 4GR will run at dual band. Also it wont be able to compare rangewise with a full blown router with MIMO aerials.

Having said that, the aerials/range on the Dovado are nothing to shout about, if you look around, it is usually one of the first things new 4GR owners complain about!

pity the b260a HSPA router doesnt come in HSPA+ form. Tis a quality router :(

Thanks for the info. Can you also tell me the main difference between the Netgear MBRN3000 and MBR624GU? Also, will these work with my o2 E1752 dongle?

What I'm looking for is a router that I can use with my 3G around the house and also so that I can share movies from my PC to media player.

    Hi
The MBR624GU only goes up to 54MBps as only wireless B/G, old hat basically and too expensive (approx £80), and doesnt work on HSPA+ so restricted to 7.2MBps.

The MBRN3000 goes to 300MBps as it works as well on the more recent wireless N standard and also will work on HSPA+ up to 21MBps. You'll need to check their website to see if its compatable with your dongle. However your dongle is fairly old so it will not work on HSPA+ , only on the older HSPDA so is limited to 7.2MB (as opposed to 21MB). Its also about £80.

I think unless your going to upgrade your dongle as well you'd be better off with either the :
    TP-Link TL-MR3420 300MBPS Wireless N 3G Router - £33.36

    or
    Edimax 3G-6200N nLite Wireless 802.11n 3G Broadband Router - £36.15

Alternatively check with O2 if you're eligible for a dongle upgrade, I was, and I got a Huawei E353 (HSPA+) from them for free.

    Hope that helps

    Hi
Does anyone have any experience with connecting the E1820 huwaei (3) modem to a D-link Dir-825 router, are they compatible? I would also appreciate any recommendations on other compatible dual-band routers. By location I am limited to 3G for our modem
    Thanks in advance

Anyone using a HSPA+ router with Meteor? What USB stick and APN please? The TP Link website lists only the E282E as compatible for the MR3420. I have an E353 and E173 but can get practically no connectivity with my current Dovado UMR on Meteor (which works fine on O2) so thinking of upgrading to a HSPA+. It also needs to have traffic monitoring and ability to alert based on usage by email or SMS.

    Hey guys and gals!
Would it be possible to use a HSDPA+ dongle with the edimax 6200n 3G router?

I went ahead with a TP-Link TL-MR3420 300MBPS Wireless N 3G Router suggested above. Just to confirm that it works fine on Meteor witha a Meteor Huawei E173 and also with an unlocked O2 Huawei E353 on both Meteor and O2. Wireless coverage seems pretty good. The E353, which is a HSPA+ dongle, works fine on O2 with my old Dovado UMR also - but couldn't get the Dovado working on Meteor.

If you download the latest firmware from here for the edimax 6200n and take a look at the text file that comes with it you can check and see if the particular HSDPA+ dongle you want to use is compatable. The original compatability list is afaik here .

I bought a TP-Link TL-MR3420 on friday and have been trying to set it up to use a huawel E353 dongle from Three in Donegal as its apparently the best coverage up here.

Anyway, when I go into the screen to connect via 3G it tells me it doesn't recognise the dongle and to add it manually.
I went to the tp-link site and found a 3G bin file to add it manually which uploaded OK but it is still not recognising it.
Anybody on here use those combinations of devices?

    Hey,

I recently just got the TP-LINK MR3420, And when I went to connect my meteor e173 dongle it wouldnt work, I have a ''three'' E180 and that worked fine. I also have a edimax 3g-6200n nLite router, which again my meteor dongle doesnt work on but my 3 works fine on......The APN settings I can see for meteor settings are dial number *99#, APN isp.mymeteor.ie, are these right??

    Any help thanks

Is the dongle recognised by the router (log into the router to check) and is there a PIN on the Meteor SIM if there is remove it.

The APN I have in my notes is broadband.mymeteor.ie

Hi, No the dongle doesnt have a pin on it, the device doesnt seem to be reconised no, my 3 E180 does thou fine, It says the dongle E173 is compatible with the device, is there any other solution? Thanks. 1 thing I did notice on the TP link MR 3240 User program where shows all the settings of the box is that the only 3 networks that show on the drop down box are meteor, vodafone and 02. Not 3, yet my 3 dongle still connects. The apn where yours show broadband.mymeteor.ie, would help if changed setting it showing of my 1. Isp.mymeteor.ie

    Thanks!

The APN is broadband.mymeteor.ie. No userid or pswd needed. I have this working fine with the TPLink and E173 on Meteor. For some reason my iPad2 doesn't like this connection and gives poor performance (only on Meteor - O2 on TP-Link is fine) but everything else works fine. For some reason Metoer helpdesk and tech support seem to continuously give ou incorrect APNs.
