I work with some lads who did BIS (not in Galway though).

They're working as computer programmers, and before that were doing technical support.

    They'd no problems finding jobs.

Hiya, sorry to bump this thread but if you don't mind me asking Red_Wake just wondering what kind of computer programming and technical support jobs did the lad's get?

What computer programming language jobs did they get into? VB, Java, HTML?

Did they have to have a foreign language with some of the technical support roles or didn't need a foreign language for their roles? What level of technical support did they manage to get into Level 1,2 or 3?

    Thanks in advance

I don't know much about their support jobs tbh.

In their current jobs, they're doing a mix of comp languages and technologies - java/.NET/html/AJAX/SQL.

I wouldn't worry much about knowing or not knowing a particular language - you'll be doing plenty of learning on the job anyway!:p

This is far too broad a question as within each bachelor, there are different module choices, and specialization.

BIS itself have core subjects were students cant choose what they do. In 4th year the get to choose 1 elective course each semester, but have 5 courses chosen for them already.

Depending on the route you take with BIS(what you like, and good at) you can get various different jobs from them. you cant just say these are the rolls they will fit into.

I did Commerce in UCD rather than Galway but as far as I'm aware they're similar courses. Depending on your area of specialisation you could be working as an accountant/tax consultant/business consultancy, HR/Recruitment, funds management, a dealing office, other finance related careers, management, setting up your own business.

It's a business degree that covers most areas of business so the career paths are pretty self explanatory
