Minecraft Classic crashing on Mac

I've been trying to play Minecraft Classic single-player in browser, but it keeps getting stuck on the black screen of death. I see the Java icon and possibly the initial Minecraft loading screen before it konks out.

    Any advice?

I have a Mac running Snow Leopard, with nothing but the browser running.

I've tried every Google suggestion I could find, from using Chrome and Firefox, to deleting all Minecraft files (only one I've ever come across in Finder was "resources", no .jar files), to pressing cmd+shift until the title box appears on the applet window. The last suggestion caused me to force shut down my laptop twice as it crashed the entire laptop.

I'm tempted to buy the full version, but not if the basic version won't run.

    Buy a PC

Buy the game, it should run fine. There is a known bug across all OS at the moment that will cause it to crash for no reason whatsoever. I've heard this far more with the in browser version, it's just volite as **** :)
I use Snow Leopard myself (10.6.8) and it very rarely crashed (only when I get kicked from a server that is crashing I might have to restart the client) but it never EVER crashes my computer (which is more than what I can say when playing on PC)

Also Colmo...I'm not sure if anyone taught you about this as a child...but if you don't have anything helpful to say... seriously like. Some of us use Macs for a reason, stop haitin' ;)

I've the full version, and run it on a 2007 Macbook with 2Gb RAM, under Snow Leopard. The newest release hasn't crashed on me once. The less said about the earlier release the better though...

That said, I don't disagree with the guys saying buy a PC. It doesn't take long on Steam to conclude that there are more releases on Windows. In the long term, if you play a lot of games, I think it'd make economic sense. And Bootcamp on OS X has done *nothing* to change my opinion on this.

Whether you decide to buy Minecraft or not is up to you, but as I see it, it crashing isn't a concern. I hope this helps.

Sorry but the OP wasn't a general gaming question, nor a question about what computer the OP should use to play minecraft.

I forgot to mention the version I'm running reliably is v1.1

If it was an issue of whether Minecraft runs reliably (it is) what platform it runs on becomes relevant since I know from experience that there were in the past Mac specific crashes.

I don't mention the pros and cons of playing games on a Mac versus a Windows PC versus a linux box for the sake of flameposting the fanboys.

If I'm off topic or out of line, with all due respect, I'll take my moderation from a moderator. What I've written falls in the scope of OPs request for advice on whether or not to spend cash on Minecraft.

Mac vs PC jokes aside (not really :P), please keep on topic rather than descending into a Mac vs PC flamewar. Danke

Thanks for the replies :) To conclude the arguments, I have no intention of going back to a PC, so I'll definitely look into buying the full version
