alarm clock on htc desire

Is there a setting that will allow my alarm clock to wake me up even if my HTC desire is switched off? I thought the alarm would go off as normal even if phone is turned off, but I found out, too late, this morning that this isn't the case.

No, none of the smartphones (Android, iOS & WP7) have this capability AFAIK.

If we want the alarm clock to work but without being woken by txt or call, put the phone in airplane mode at night.
