I want to upgrade my Macbook with new RAM.

Can I install the old RAM from my Macbook Pro into my iMac? My macbook pro has x2 1GB DDR3 RAM 1067 Mhz. My iMac has x2 2GB RAM DDR 1333Mhz and has two free slots

IIRC ddr and ddr 3 are not compatible, the slots/sticks are different sizes (and likely other differences)

Just rechecked. The iMac has DDR3 not DDR so it should be able to take my Macbook RAM?

Running 1067mhz ram at 1333mhz is risky as far as I know. I don't have any direct experience with the overclockability of standard ram, but it might not be a work/not work situation... you could get random glitches, corruption and/or kernel panics. Considering that you can get 4 gigs from crucial.com for 30 euro or 8 gigs for 45, it wouldn't be worth the hassle for me personally.

Why bother buying ram when you can just download it?

But seriously, you won't want to risk that, it could lead to some really annoying problems in the future. Just get some new ram, it's very cheap. I'd buy it from memoryc.ie if i were you. They have a good memory configuration tool and it'd help you choose the right ram

Mac's may be overpriced, but they are way more reliable than windows or linux. I used both windows and linux for 7 years, but then tried a mac, they are better in every way performance wise.

P.S. stop trying to cause a war

I've decided to do the opposite and put the 1333mhz Ram from my iMac into the 1067 Mhz slot in my Macbook Pro. This way I can upgrade the iMac to 8gb.

    Anyone tried this?

I'll probably RAM for my Macbook or iMac off MemoryC either way.

I've never tried it but from what i've read in the past nothing bad happens, other than the 1333Mhz ram being bottlenecked to the slower 1067Mhz slot in the MBP
