In my day everybody watched the den because it had lots of different shows and the crack with zig and zag and later ray dustin and socky but these days all RTE TWO show is wall to wall repeats of hannah montana and sabrina (for the 35000 time) everyday.

Aww yeah those were the days, youngsters have it too easy now and have no taste, only 2 channels when i was growing up, now they have dozens of kids channels and no taste.

I'd say most young children would watch CBeebies, CBBC and CITV.

CBBC is the first choice of the only child I know (Tracy Beaker!). She used to be into just the awful Disney/Nick day-glo shiote but her taste has shifted noticeably in the last 6 months. Dunno that she ever watches RTÉ Junior

It depends. In my area a lot of people wouldn't have satellite channels, or even the English channels. The two primary school goers I know both watch RTÉ 2 after school.

My kids were in complete shock when i told them only watched cartoons on bbc on Saturday mornings. And we had to get off our arse to change the station. My cheeky git of a daughter asked me were things out on the road in colour back then.

RTE 2 is gone to ****. I still would watch it if right shows were on but I honestly couldn't tell you whats on before half 5 and I'd only watch RTE 2 at half 6 for the Simpsons. I think of the slot as being from like 2-7, back in the day, you'd have quality from half 4 to 7, sister sister, sabrina, are you afraid of the dark, now its muck.

Is the quality of RTE 2's output still 20 years behind that of the BBC? It was when my kids tried to watch it.:(

Most children's channels have unfortunately gone the route of stripped schedules. I.E. 4pm = Hannan Montana.

The newer kids comedies are tween monsters IMO, even worse then saved by the bell.

Unfortunately for RTÉ they are competing with BBC and Nick money. RTÉ spend ~ 15million on Children's programming while across two BBC channels the BBC spend ~£136,000,000.

Very posh we had to do with Pajo's Junkbox and had to let the TV cool down every 15mins, later we got a TV with a remote and teletext. Of course we still had to do with Pajo or else sports stadium on 2.

They should never have got rid of The Den as a brand TRTÉ and RTÉjr aren't good brands IMO. And they should return to the 3 to 6 schedule, with out stripped scheduling, I used to like the menu Item on The Den.

World of the Gnomes used to get an awful slagging from Zig and Zag, why they are still repeating it is beyond me.

RTÉ seem to have been showing Sabrina since God I was a boy! Must be cheap in syndication or something.

They seemed to be fond of showing Sister Sister repeats for a long time too, don't know if they still do. Ah good old 90s programming, may be an endless repeat but puts the current crap to shame.

Look at Nickelodeon, when I was younger it used to be so active with great shows and the schedule was unreal, you'd get the odd dud that you would never watch(for me ren and stimpy) but most of the time they had unreal shows on. Since the start of the last decade, the only shows that I watch(ed) are Drake and Josh, Ned's Declassified, Icarly and Victorious, mayb a few more but the decline is so noticable. Its not like 'im grown up' i still would watch nick

Yeah same. Sabrina was on when I used to come home from school everyday and she was probably older in the show than I was in real life. I'd say now I'd probably be old enough to be her dad and the show is still on.

The series ran from 1996 to 2003.(7 season). She got to go to college at some stage and then even got a job in the last season. (yes its been on too much) But it is still far better than "The Wizards of Waverly Place".

The Cat is the same voice actor as Alf right?

Sabrina was a great show, remember when Prinicipal Kraft used to make fun of Harvey 'WHO WAS THAT TO KINKLE?'

I know Nick Bakay is the voice actor's name (he was also a writer on the show). Don't know about his involvement with Alf though (I've never actually seen Alf!)

I seem to remember RTÉ used to schedule the "college" seasons at a later time (19:00 I think) when they first came out, not sure if it was known as TTV at that stage but there seemed to be an attempt to market it to a slightly older demographic. Though I think it had switched networks in the US by that stage as well (ABC- WB?).

I suppose there's worse things that could be endlessly repeated at the end of the day. Despite being American it's practically become a staple of Irish children's TV!

Wow, they still show Sabrina? They must be on their 40th or 50th repeat of each episode at this stage.

At the time i thought the den name should have been retired when the format of the man behind the desk and the two puppets finished in 2005 but you are right trte and rtejr are crap names

Prehaps you should have asked them if they watch rtejr or trte.

I hope they didn't use wtf. Unless they are teens.

The den's orginal format ended with the arrival of dustin's daily news (2005), cbbc are currently using the man behind the desk format.

I have a really young sister whom I thankfully have gotten hooked on the 90's shows. She had a quick Hannah Montana phase but I got her into the classics like Kenan & Kel etc.

For anyone with kids, you owe it to them to show them the following shows:

    Kenan & Kel
    Sister Sister
    Sabrina
    Saved by the Bell
    Hang Time
    Fresh Prince
Are You Afraid of the Dark

That stuff just has gold written all over it.
