BMW 318 1999, brake pads and discs

    Just a quick question.

I got new brake discs and pads for the 2 rear wheels about 11 weeks ago. It was the rear driver side wheel that really needed the pads and discs but i said would do the both . But in the last week the rear driver side wheel is again heating up and squealing and the brake pad light has come on. I havent done anything excessive or braking hard. Why would the same brake pad be gone again or would something be causing it?

It would go without saying that if the brakes were originally only worn on one side then there is an issue with the brake caliper sticking/binding on that wheel.

The fact that its now happening again proves it.

Did you fit the brakes yourself? If not, the problem should have been obvious to any mechanic who might have fitted them.

If its the caliper sliders may be seized, in which case they can be replaced but its its the caliper piston thats corroded and seized then the caliper will have to be replaced.

thanks for that Nissan doctor. I was thinking that something must be causing it.

Would I have a case that the garage should have identified this originally if it is the problem and fix accordingly without charge

Did you supply the parts or did the garage supply the parts?

Yes you have a case you brought the car into them to fix and it's the same basically. I reckon it's a bad caliper as its a known fault on this car.even still u paid the garage to repair and they did not carry it out correctly

Sounds like calipers all right. Pity your new discs and pads are destroyed now though.
