Just wanted to know what could be done about this situation.

We had a rep from Sky call to our door a few weeks ago explaining about the new special offer they have on where new subscribers get free equipment. Seeing as we were already with Sky, we were told we could change from having Sky in my mams name to my dads name in order to get the deal. We were also told we could get the deal by cancelling our direct debit and he(the rep) would start up a new one. We did it and now we've been trying to ring the rep because we have a problem with the signal and he isn't answering his phone. My mam has also gotten word of owing Sky money from the last month so the rep obviously didn't do his job right :(

Any ideas on what we could do? We were only following what we were told we could do to get this deal.

Sounds like a classic case of a door-to-door salesman making you break/bend the rules to get a sale, to be honest. I'd ring them up, explain what happened and ask them to sort it, as he was their rep. And I'd be looking for everything he promised and more.

You have a 30 day cooling off period iirc. The rep has rode off into the sunset never to been seen again. Call sky and tell them u are cancelling off the contract and tell them what happened and what the rep told u. They will probably sort it out to keep your custom.
I've heard so Many bad stories from people who sign up door to door, for sky, eircom etc.. That I'd never sign up to anything and my door. Hope you get it sorted out!

I've taken down the number for Sky in Cork so we can ring them up tomorrow. Hopefully we can get it sorted asap and without difficulty.

We've been told by Sky that they're 'sorry' for what the rep did but we still have to pay the other fee! Is there any way to dispute it? I really don't want to let them away with this. They should take the money out of the reps wages imo

Tell them you now also want to cancel the account that was in your mams name and watch them squirm

If you have no luck with the Cork gang, send an email to $ky outlining your issue to mysky@bskyb.com. That will go to Head Office and should sort you out.

We have a similar problem. Our box was acting up so when a sky rep from carlow came round by chance he said it would cost €100 for a callout and more for a new box. The solution: new account in a different name, he would set it up. €50 in total, €20 for him(i think) and the balance for the installer. He said cancell the DD and not to ring sky about it when i asked should we close the account. Alarm bells shud have rang but when he has official sky forms and a seemingly official sky card to identify himself, its hard to hear them!
The old a/c was frozen when payment wasnt recieved and the letters started coming. When i rang sky ranting they said the same thing. i must pay €31 that i owed and another 30ish to close the a/c! Best they could do was freeze it and i pay €31. When i protested that it was a sky rep i was told "yeah we have problems with those guys". Now we have debt collectors asking for the money and threatening to pass it back to their "client who will then further escalate collections procedures"!
Surely the law must be on our side. These sky reps make money out of it. The installers make money. Sky must make money or they would act on it. Im guessing iv a mark on my credit rating untill i pay. My only hope is that sky bring me to court for €31....and the law is on my side!

I would contact Sky today, and say you want to cancel the new account under "30 day cooling off period".

Make sure you are speaking to someone in Ireland. You need to have both account details. If you can threaten to cancel both accounts. You must be willing to cancel and switch to another provider if really, really pushed. A saorview/freesat setup has no monthly charge at all.

Personally I would stop both direct debits today, to stop them taking more, and ring Sky. Keep contacting them until you are happy.

But yes they could put you on a bad payer list, which they think you are. It's a total pain, as you have been mis-sold by a door to door seller.

It's best to act fast, before charges mount up. For example cancel old account today (giving the 30 days notice) before they try to add another month to this. Try to cancel the new account under the 30 day cooling off rule.

Try to be patient but insistant. Stay on the line until you are happy. Cancelling both accounts, then paying back any outstanding may be the only clean solution. Sky does not want any customer to leave. If eventually you have no service they will start hounding you to re-join with deals.

The consumer association may help:
http://thecai.ie/your-rights/how-to-complain-effectively/

Read their advice. If you contact them they will give you the same advice. If you want they will just ring Sky like yourself. They are more of a last resort, and an advice line.

Ring Sky TODAY and let us know how you get on.

Those door to door salesmen are NOT from Sky. Next week they could be selling Eircom Phonewatch. They'll do anything for a sale as the Sky commissions are lucrative.

Never buy anything from the door.

If was truly a good deal, they wouldn't to go door to door to flog it to impulse buyers.

That applies to everything.

Thanks for the advice first of all. :)
We are passed the 30 day cooling off period on the new ac but dont mind that as we want to stay with sky. The old ac cant accrue more charges as the ac is frozen. Thats why we only owe the 1 months subs. To close the ac would mean another months subs. They are willing to leave it frozen indefinetly! So there wouldnt be much point ringing them again as far as i can see.
I just rang them after reading that back and got a scottish lad. I gave him a quick rundown and he opened up both accounts to have a look. I was put on hold for 5mins and HALLELUYA! He sent a request to accounts for €31 credit so the old ac should be settled. Still frozen so i can switch back if i get in trouble with the new 1! Ha ha, ah no.
Fair play for the advice. It does help to RING THEM TODAY! Prob helps to hold out till they pay a debt collector to unsucessfully get the money too!
Cant thank you guys enough.
P.S. I do have the reps first name and num. He rang my partner recently from his list of sky customers. He had started another venture...... life assurance! We declined:D

I don't want to rain on your parade but just because he has requested a refund for you may not mean much. I recently just got resolved a refunding issue that should have been credited early Feb. After numerous calls to both Irish & Scottish call centers & getting the runaround I followed some advice from on here and emailed estenquiries@bskyb.com which is their executive support team. The next day a lady actually returned a call & sorted the mess out while being very apologetic for the situation. May be worth getting in touch if your credit does not materialise when it should.
Sorry for rant

Heard about reps from Carlow,if they are the same crowd they will do & say literally anything to get a sale.

Sky are clamping down on these guys big time now, hence the rep mentioned here is no longer selling Sky.
