I was just saying that if someone had the choice they wouldnt want to be Gay and would take the drug, I was trying to make a point that nobody would choose to be gay its just the way they were made..

I'd recommend reading the article. Give it your full attention. There's no such cure to speak of - instead there's a doctor with an agenda at variance with best medical practice conjecturing that treatments for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia could be extended to create babies with 'designer' sexuality.

She has no results to show for this given that she's not been injecting steroids willy-nilly into babies and we wouldn't know the 'results' until puberty or well after.

Treatments for CAH are being carried out and homosexuality is not a medical problem. It would be the most heinous thing in medical ethics since Dr. Mengele, and not likely to get the approval of any regulatory board, if she started trialling homosexuality 'cures' on the unborn. Dr. New sounds nutty, but I'm sure she values her medical licence.

TL;DR - This is a non-story. And no, I wouldn't change my sexuality. Thanks. It doesn't bother me (I'm not self-loathing) and seemingly only bothers other people. Strange that!

Yup, I understand that, but being homosexual isn't the hopeless situation - being bullied by other people for being homosexual can be a hopeless situation. The answer to that is not to give in. It's as repugnant to offer black people under an Apartheid system 'hope' because a procedure or 'pill' might appear helping them to change to the favoured, white, skin colour.

These are cultural constructs. Not illnesses.

I think the vast majority of gay people don't particularly 'want' to be straight.

Personally I don't really care, being gay hasn't hindered my life in any way, everyone I know is supportive and blah blah so why should I?
In fact I think being gay makes me that bit more open-minded as I can empathise more with minorities, which is always good.

i see why you posted it. but answering this quoted bit above: we had a thread about this not long ago and some people said yes theyd chose to be straight if they could. others said no, they are who they are etc. im in that camp.

i really hope they never DO invent a drug or treatment for it because there is no doubt in my mind that there are people who would actually be forced into it or feel they have to do it, even if theyre happy to be who they are etc. it'd be wide open to abuse too.

as for designer babies - ill have a brown eyed, pink haired, gay female with bags of brains please :cool: just another thing to hope never happens. they should focus more on genetic disease and birth defects
