    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone on the forum works (or knows anyone who does) at Dublin Airport or perhaps a contact I could get in contact with. This is in relation to taking pictures on the apron.

Please email me at: support@eiresim.com if you have any information.

    Thanks,

    Cherytaz

    DAA would seem like the obvious place to start;

Getting access to the ramp may not be easy though. Many if not most holders of DAA Airside ID do not have access to the ramp.

Thanks for replies but at €250/hour I think I might have to give it a miss!

No harm in asking. Fee could be there to stop getting to many requests.

I think he knows you already anyway, eirsim.

You would be amazed at how many people have ramp access in Dublin Airport, I had it when I was working in the restaurants, as did the majority of the staff working for that company.

The fee is there because anyone looking for a temporary ramp pass access will have to be processed at the id office and escorted when airside, which costs money.

Gaining ramp access solely for the purposes of taking photos would be a tricky one to negotiate. Photography in and around the airport is discouraged. Once saw a guy taking photos of the fuel farm(who knows why) being pounced on quite rapidly, and the photos deleted before he was allowed on his way.

Tipp pilot is correct with the above, I would also like to WARN current ID holders from photographing airside also. You endanger losing your Access ID if what your photographing is viewed to either breach Airside Security and/or not be concurrent with T&Cs of the issue of your card.

Permission airside is only permitted when on company business and not off duty. Just wanted to warn peeps. Seen to many poeople get in hot water over this issue before.. Best option is to cover your back and get permission of the DAA prior to taking them..

OP no harm in writing an email or letter to the DAA over the matter but if it's for a commercial venture like a Flight Sim game they may charge you etc..

In the last year and a half or so they've tightened that up. Only people who have an actual necessity to be on the ramp for the purposes of their job are given Blue Ramp access badges. Everyone else working Airside gets Green Access badges.

Even the Airport cops were warned they'd face disciplinary action if they were seen taking pictures of AF1 whilst it was in DUB last May. There was some great examples of Ninja photography going on that day!:pac:

One of the Airport cops told me on the day that they had been given notice that no pics were to be taken near AF1 or of it by cops on duty/in uniform. Apparently the same went for all DAA staff by i never heard about it.

By all accounts a lot of the diktact's came from US Secret Service but who really knows?

You will need to contact the External Communications Department directly, who process all queries in relation to filming at Dublin Airport. Details on their website here; http://www.daa.ie/gns/media-centre/media-contacts.aspx

As expected I have recieved no replies from DAA. It really does not take that much to send an email, a 2min email would have sufficed. I am actually willing to pay for the privilege of taking photos of the airport. Baffles me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 283 ✭✭An Udaras

Which email do you send it too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭cherrytaz

Just got a reply to contact them directly with a call so I'll see how that goes tomorrow

Best of luck with your request

I have finally got an answer from DAA and as expected it is a NO. They have informed me that because Dublin is a busy international airport they do not have the resources to facilitate such access in a restricted area. Disappointing to say the least...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭tippilot

Disappointing, but bear in mind Dublin Airport is not there for your pleasure. It is a busy and secure functioning international airport and ramp access is granted only for valid reaons. Granting ramp access for a reason as trivial as yours is and always will be on the lower end of the priority list. I don't intend to sound harsh, but it's the way airports work.

Hopefully this won't impact too badly in your EIDW v2....the screenshots at this relatively early stage look brilliant!

Yep as you say it is understandable not to grand access. It certainly would have brought the Dublin V2 to another level but I will continue onwards with what resources I have.
