who had the best jab ever besides the obvious ali, bowe and holmes, lets exclude the heavyweights...

for me hearns and hagler would rank highly....ray robinson would also be up there with the best

i would probably rank de la hoya and ike quartey near the top of the non HW heap

ken buchanan springs to mind. he was a very good boxer all built around his jab if i remember correctly

I'm biased because he is my fav boxer of all time but Hagler for me, he was right handed yet fought south paw and i have read that his jabs will were as hard as other guys punches.

    Holyfield as a CW qualifies??

If so, what a terrifically powerful and accurate punch.

for me de la hoya's jab was the most consistent

for a one off great jabbing performance i would say roy jone's jabbing against pazienza.....probably the quickest jab i've ever seen.....jones rarely used the jab, especially after his middleweight days but against pazienza he threw many fast accurate stinging jabs....unbelievable speed

the thin man arguello had a nice straight jab, bit slow but always landed

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Tommy Hearns the whole way. Fast, accurate, hard and extremely consistent.

Toney's jab when used was rock solid and snappy. Watch him in the McCallum bouts, Hembrick bouts. Why does his inclusion deserve your "ridicule?"

it was great in the mccallum fight but he didnt use it consistently enough....in some fights he didnt use at all

I agree he did neglect it, but it was a potent weapon when used. In the Hembricks fight he used it very effectively.

Jones rarely used his jab too. I think Toney's jab was better than Jones'.

You know, Barry had a very good and strong jab. You wouldn't necessarily think him, but I do recall from the times I watched him that his jab was very good when he used it.

yeah barry had a good jab

i'd def say jones had better jab than toney when jones used it....both of them didn't use jabs often but jones was faster and had more pop...also jones hung left hand low so opponents never saw jab coming....def jones had better jab IMO

I disagree. I think James' had more weight and power. That is how I saw it. Like you said, both probably neglected it too much.

Winky and ike. If you want to see a jab in action look up winky v Adrian Dodson. Phenomenal! Ike jab was ferocious, he could stop a charging beast with it

    Whitaker
    Quartey
    Winky Wright
    Hearns

Winky Wright is a great shout

the late great Vernon Forrest had an outstanding jab as well.
