India can be very tough! I spent 3 months there, but didn't get as far as the beachy bits.

I've heard lots of reports of Goa just being like a European resort and not very Indian, I've heard nicer things about places farther down the coast such as Kerala.

If you're going in June, be prepared for a windy, damp and rainy monsoon...

In my opinion, there is soooo much more to India than beaches. In most places you have to dress conservatively as not to offend anyone...if you're looking for beaches and partying I'd recommend Thailand or Vietnam, they're amazing fun and a lot more relaxing.

My favourite places in India were Mumbai, Udaipur & Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) and Amritsar.

And if you still wanna go to the beaches, do yourself a favour and save it till the end when you really deserve it!

+ 1 on the monsoon, and it gets HOT, especially in the South.

+ 1 on Rajasthan, just back, cooler, at least in Feb/March.

It will be very very hot. Last summer I headed to the hills over by Himachal Pradesh. Absolutely beautiful place. I went to chill out. Wish now I'd done more; hiking and the like. If you're brave and can handle some hairy bus rides Lek and other places further north are amazing too. I also love the north east but it can be a tough place to do solo.
