Does anyone have any idea why RTE don't show their own shows they produced themselves on the RTE player? Surely there can't be much of a rights issue if they made it themselves?

I'm looking for a show made a few years ago about depression and suicide,it was called I see a Darkness. Yet it can't be found anywhere! Why make these shows to only air them once or twice and not make them available after. I'm a teacher and I think this 3 part documentary would be a good resource for a discussion on depression and suicide.

RTE seem to have made it available to Suicide groups perhaps you could make inquiries in that direction.

You can buy a DVD of any of their programmes from their Archives section, link here: (you can select schools)

The OP is talking about programmes that are not available on the RTE player.

The op said it wasn't available on RTE Player, I was trying to be helpful, you should read posts more carefully before replying.

RTE only make their programs available on the player for a while - about a month is the longest for most things.

As far as I know certain Irish produced series are not show / shown for a limited time due to issues with the Actors union re additional fees for "on demand" showings of the series

alright, that might make sense. That's what I was wondering in particular,I can understand why US shows might only be allowed on the player for a month but I assumed if they made the shows themselves, surely they could put them up on the player for long lengths of time.

In many cases RTE don't make the shows themselves, it's often third party companies such as Coco Television or Tyrone Productions among many others. In these situations I'd say RTE would be restricted in what they can put online.
