    Hi,

Is a 3 month warranty on an Engine & Gearbox really worth anything?

Say on a '04 or '05 Galaxy, I don't know if there are any computers in the car that control or regulate the engine but I'm guessing if there are they would be very pricey to fix or replace if anything went wrong.

Would computers or chips be included in an 'Engine' warranty?

When given such a warranty, what does this actually cover by law or is it up to the 'discretion' of the seller?

    Thanks

Engine and gearbox is pretty useless tbh, but its what most dealers give, and the chance that one or the other goes in 3 months is quite slim.

Be very very careful to read what they define as the engine and gearbox components as one specific dealer in Kilmainham has an "engine and gearbox" warranty that when you read all what is excluded you are left with the engine block itself and the basics of the gearbox!.

basically not worth the paper it is written on..

Boys and girls, in this country the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act, 1980 protects purchasers by stating, very simply that goods must be
    • as described (in an ad, web-site or by the sales-man)
    • fit for purpose (a car must be capable of being driven for a "reasonable" time without breakdown - 2 to 3 or even 5 years)
    • of merchantable quality - goods must do what is expected of them bearing in mind price and for example durability.
A business or sole-trader dealer selling a car has responsibilities laid down in law and must not attempt to impose terms and conditions on a sale or on a consumer that infringe their statutory rights. A 3-month engine and gear-box warranty is an illegal imposition that infringes your statutory rights and cannot be imposed.

Beware of the "private sales" ads. A quick check on telephone numbers, backgrounds in photographs, wording of ads, etc can show that quite a few of these "private sellers" are in fact dealers depriving the purchaser of their rights and the government of tax revenues.

I hate these 3 month engine and gearbox warranties, they are the most useless bloody things. Miserable little garages on the corner with smirky faced salesman comes to mind when I hear '3 month engine gearbox'
