HTFU - how committed are you?

"KIERAN BEHAN became the latest Irish sportsperson to earn a ticket to this summer’s Olympic Games after securing 34th position at the London Prepares gymnastics test event."

"A non-cancerous tumour was discovered on his leg when he was 10, leaving him in a wheelchair. Behan recovered and 15 months later he was back in the gym only for a freak training accident to leave him with brain damage.
Behan, then aged 12, slipped while working on the high bar causing the back of his head to land on the apparatus, which damaged his inner ear and caused him to black out with any sudden movement.
It meant he had to relearn how to do simple things such as sitting and how to move his head and left him unable to train for three years. After a great deal of rehabilitation and support from his family and friends, Behan returned to the gym and gained several youth accolades, but a double injury blow ruled him out until the end of 2010 after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligaments in both of his knees in separate incidents."

Great stuff, fair play to him but how is this running/tri related? ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,612 ✭✭✭gerard65

But what time can he run the marathon in?

Things just didnt go for Kieran today but he is and and always will be a champion and no medal whatever its made of would suggest otherwise. His story is incredible and inspirational.

EDIT: hi mods could you perhaps move this thread to a more suitable area

Brace yourself for the non athletics\running related Olympic threads. Seems like a lovely guy but the thread does not belong in this forum.

Why not? There is no forum for the olympics and this is the most relevant forum for most of it. It'll be for a couple of weeks, so what?!

Olympics are associated, by and large, with athletics, so this is going to be seen as the most relevant forum.

Why did Gerard close his account?

All the Olympics stuff is over here

How is that more relevant than here? This forum has way more traffic than the sports forum and is going to attract people looking to post about the olympics long before the sports forum.

Given who the last person to post on a thread over there is, I'd be staying here...

Fair enough, doesn't bother me. Just pointing out that the olympics is being discussed in depth over there.

Hardly indepth, there's a handful of posters in each thread. I'd have thought this forum would be the first port of call for most looking for info on the olympics? Certainly would be mine.

Yeah but most of the people posting here are Irish.

Brilliant opening gala, a wonderful counterpart to the magnificent splendour of Bejing.

Lochte was fantastic in the 400 medley, I expect him to be the swimming star of these games.

Lochte let the U.S down last night. They had him on the anchor leg in the 4 x 100 free and he swam the slowest split time allowing the French to win gold.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Yohan Blake will be the name at the games. I am rooting for Bolt to win, and to win well. I don't want just a win, I want explosions. I just pray to god that none of the top 4 men get DQd with a false start. This race is the race of the games. The greatest ten seconds in sports history. Don't let it be destroyed by a DQ.
