    Hi Folks,

Job finished 5 weeks ago went in and gave all my info next day then this week got a letter to go see inspector which i did today.

I was asked for bank statements which i supplied 3 MONTHS,Inspector queried 3 payments at random which were low amounts and were credits to my bank account for goods i sold on Adverts.ie.and one transaction was a transfer of money from my bank account to a prepay debit card i have which i use to buy on-line goods.

I now have to produce records of these transactions from Adverts.ie and they want a statement of my prepay card all of these occured when i was working,
i have about 100 quid in my bank??

My question is can they request this information?

they also asked for my parents address and name im 41y/o and have not lived at home for 20+ years, again can they ask this.

Im now at home worried that if my documentation is not 100% then i will be refused.

    it was an interrogation,

    your help is appreciated,
    Thanks

For social assistance payments (incl Jobseekers Allowance) which are means tested (unlike social insurance payments which are not) they can indeed go through your bank statements and ask questions. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/means_test_for_social_welfare_payments/means_test_for_jobseekers_allowance.html

It is a bit of a shock to those who are not expecting it, but the questioning re bank statements sounds par for the course. In fact, it would be quite usual for 6 months of bank statements to be requested, rather than 3 months, and also usual for an inspector to visit you at home rather than having you come into the office. For Jobseekers Allowance, you are allowed to have up to 20,000 Euro in your account before deductions start in respect of savings/means. They are mostly interested in income, movement of monies in and out of your account and you should be able to show sources for that and if activities have come to an end, you can tell them that, produce what evidence you can and your bank statements, the most recent ones, will also back that up.

As for asking for your parents' names and addresses, maybe others on this site can let you know if that is usual. It may just be a check on identity. It does not mean that they would approach living parents for any information whatsoever. For social assistance payments, habitual residence has also to be proven and they would certainly ask for parents' names and addresses in respect of that. However, you may have always lived in Ireland and that may not have applied to you.
