long term illness benefit and want to get back to work

I'm a long time out of work due to a injury in work. I'm on illness benefit since July 07. I've been on a rehabilitative course and through that i may have an opportunity of getting back into paid employment which would be great and is what i'm aiming for but i have a question. My illness benefit was applied for before 09 and with that application my entitlement to this benefit doesn't expire. If i applied now i'd only be able to stay on this claim for a maximum of 2 years, thats my understanding anyway.

I was reading on the web a couple of weeks ago that i could try and get back working and suspend the payment i'm on and if it didn't work out due to me being unable to do it i'd be able to go back onto the claim that i was on within 6 months. I'm searching for this information on the web and cant find it and would appreciate it if someone knew something about this. Its not an exemption i'm looking for as i think this work would be more that the 20hrs a week that the exemption stipulates.

I really want to try and see if i'd be able to get back working but i also need the safety net if i'm unable to work after trying.
Does anyone have any information, c

    cheers

You are correct with your info.
Indeed you can go back onto your IB claim if things do not work out for you healthwise,
I remember reading this somewhere as well, but cannot find it at the moment. It was probably in one of the booklets the department hands out.
Why not phone them and ask. They are usually very helpfull.

i found it on the welfare.ie website and then spent a couple of hours trying to get it confirmed in the section that deals with my claim you can restart your claim within 26 weeks if it doesn't work out health wise. Its great cos i can get a real feel for the rigours of the job and whether i'd be able for it. Cant be turning down a job opportunity with so few out there.
