I'm on a 3 day week hopefully only for a short while. I went to the social welfare office as I've heard I can sigh on for days I don't work. I also heard it is based on a 6 day working week. I've yet to receive a cheque. Do you know how much I will get (single, no kids, renting).

Is it jobseekers benefit or allowance. If benefit and you have the maximum rate €188 then you will receive half of €188 or 3/6 ths. If its jobseekers allowance then your means will have to be assessed from earnings.

Has it not been changed to 5 days in the recent budget?

Sorry to hijack thread, but can someone just claim for other 2 days if on Jobseek Benefit regardless of wages ? So if someone gets 400 for 3 days work can they claim for other 2?

If you have an entitlement to jobseekers benefit and your work has been reduced from 5 to 3 days you will get sw for 3 days regardless of earnings (wages). If your normall working pattern is 3 days you will not get jsb and you will be deemed to have no substantial loss and will have to apply for jobseekers allowance which is means tested.

If the 3 days worked are 12 hours shifts then this is considered full time work and you will not qualify for any payment.

I need the clarify the situation with casual workers.

If your normal working week is a 4 day week and you are reduced to a 3 day week you can claim for the other 3 days but you will probably be awarded a level of 4 so if you work a 4 day week anytime you wont get any sw payment. The same if your normal working week is 3 days and you are reduced to 2 days etc. This application of a level only applies to jobseekers benefit.

Just to add if one of your working days is Sunday this is excluded at the moment but will be included as a working day in 2013 per budget.

If you claim is jobseekers allowance any income from working on Sunday will be included for means.

When did you go down to a 3 day week? Is it only recent if so then you can make a jsb claim. If on the other hand your days have been reduced from 4 days to 3 days for some time and you failed to make a claim straight away then you may be considered to have no substantial loss and will have to apply for jobseekers allowance which is means tested.

If that doesnt work, get the social to get you work to fill in a letter for you. Its usually a photocopied sheet detailing when you started the job and your work pattern and if you will ever be offered more hours. Thats not to say they will not fill this out, but you might have a better chance with a formal document.

A place of work refusing to write a letter for the Social welfare would flag HR issues for me. I'd call the tax office and make sure they are paying tax for you too, just in case.

I have a fair idea of who you work for. It is their company policy not fill up the forms issued by sw for casual workers also.
