No hot water from the kitchen tap

    Hi Guys,

I've been looking at boards for an answer to this issue but I can't find anyone in the same situation as myself. I just moved into an apartment which has gas heating. It's working fine, comes on every morning and heats the water for the bathroom sink and bathtub/shower, but not the kitchen. Water runs, but it's only slightly lukewarm. I can hear the pump activate when I turn the hot tap in the kitchen so there is some communication there (it doesn't make any sound when I turn the cold water tap, it runs from the mains obviously, though the pump does make noise when I turn the cold taps in the bathroom) so I'm guessing the solution must be pretty simple. I'd appreciate any advice.

mixer tap at sink may be problem, when hot tap is open its mixing with mains.is there stopcock under sink that will turn off mains water, then try hot tap

Hi, tried this and the water still pours cold when the hot tap is turn and stopcock is closed. No water from the cold tap, obviously. No loss in pressure, seems to be coming from the tank maybe.

If you have a mixer tap in kitchen. Turn on cold and keep your hand/thumb over outlet so as to force cold water up hot tap and unblock a suspected air lock. Good luck

Hi sellarberry, that didn't work either. Tried it twice (holding my hand over the faucet for 1-2 minutes), but I'm still only getting cool water. The pressure is quite high too, it's just not hot. The bathroom taps are pouring hot water, fyi. Just tested it there to be sure there's plenty still in the tank.

Added a picture of the tap in question, as you can see, hot is turned on, plenty of water, just none of it is hot.

    Sounds like a crossed pipe.

ie: when the house was originally piped plumber mistakenly
brought a cold feed to the sink instead of a hot.

To confirm (or not!) switch off the hot supply at the pump
and run hot at sink. If its crossed you will still get water from
the tap (because it's connected to the cold)

Hope that makes some sense :)

Hey, you seem to be on the right track.

I closed to valve leading from the hot water tank to the pump and turned on the kitchen hot tap. Same as ever, cold water gushing out, no change. Went to the bathroom, tried the hot water there, got a small amount before it turned to a trickle. The cold tap was fine.

    That must be it.
It must gain some heat from the tank sitting on top of the hot water tank. The water (cold/lukewarm) is not as cold as the mains water coming through the cold tap.

This thread seems to have stopped dead in the water. Could anyone give some guidance for the next course of action?

the tap needs to be re-plummed to have a hot water pipe going to the hot water tap

with a bit of luck u can trace hot pipe to sink back to the pump and will be an easy swap to hot side of pump

you will really need to get a plumber. there could be a hot feed connected to the dishwasher or something. is it a new build?

You need to do some investigation to see if theres a hot
pipe around that area, pull out a few appliances, have
a look around kitchen sink, take some kicker boards off etc.

If theres none to be found then probably best to call a plumber.
Quickest and least disruptive way out could be to install an undersink
    water heater.
