If your average wages in 2010 were more than 300 Euro/week, Illness Benefit rate is 188 Euro/week for a single person. There are increases for dependent spouse/partner and children.

If your average wage in 2010 was less than 300, you will get paid less. The rates are here http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Publications/sw19/Pages/sw19_sect5.aspx

You don't get paid for the first three days.

Depending on your contract, you may either get your wages topped up to their full amount by your employer, or get paid in full by the employer and have to repay the employer any Illness Benefit that you received. Of course, some contracts have no provision for sick pay, and all you get is your Illness Benefit.

As it is calculated on 2010s earnings (and I spent time out of work then too) I only get €147.50 a week, but I am married with no kids. It's not much but just about enough to get by.
