Buying a helmet

I've scanned through the forum and not seen anything so apologies if this is in another thread..

I've been skiing a couple of years and am still adding a ski item to my gear each year, and am going to pick up my own helmet this year. Has anyone any advice on where in Dublin (or London, as will be there working), is good to buy a helmet from.

I want to avoid buying online if possible, as I'll be wearing it 2 or 3 weeks a year skiing and want it to be comfortable.

Also any advice on brands etc when purchasing would be welcome. Thanks all, happy skiing!!!

If you are in London, Snow and Rock near covent garden had a good enough selection the last time I was there, but nothing is going to beat the choice you will have in resort.

Make sure you try on a few before you buy as they will all have slightly different fits.

You male or female? Snow and Rock in Dundrum have a good selection of womens helmets but only 3 or 4 mens.

Best advice anyone ever gave me was bring your goggles with you. Not all goggles work with all helmets. In fact very few do!

Recently bought a red trace helmet online only to find the goggles I normally wear don't work with it. Leaves a gap, and forces the goggles over my nose causing it to block it. Luckily my spares do.

Bring your goggles when trying on helmets!

Best Selection of Ski shops in London is High Street Kensington. From memory there's Millets, Ellis Bingham, Columbia, Snow and Rock (better selection than Dublin) and something like Mountain Hardware or maybe Hardwear.

They are all within a 100 yard stretch of the road.

Oh and also Blacks I think.


If you can't find what you want here then I doubt you will have better choice in anywhere else in UK or Ireland

As above S&R Covent Garden or the Ellis Bingham across the road both of which will cover most stuff. Just outside London skibartlett.

Bring your googles, two reasons

1 - Ensures no gaps between googs frame and lid to stop wind burn

2 - Ensures the lid fits right on your noggin with the googs on
