    Hi,
I've just started TTC for the first time. I'm a bit oldish.. 34! but that's how life goes..

Anyways, been over 10 yrs on the pill, and i dont know as of yet if my cycles are regular.. guess not coz they weren't before i went on the pill, and this is my first few weeks after my last period, so wont know yet.

My question is.. do i need to go to the doctor and tell him i'm trying? what should i do to prepare? I don't smoke, so no need to give up that! heard that it was good to take Folic Acid but when i went to boots to get it I found these other tablets with hundreds of vitamins, and omega 3 & 6 and this and that and i got confused.. Just got the Folic Acid ones as it was my idea in first place.. guess my second question is, is this enough? anything else i should be taking? doing? Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks & good luck everyone!! :)

I was 34 when I started too, so you have plenty of time. You dont need to go to the doctor, and taking folic acid is fine. My fertility specialist said that there is no real need to take the other type of vitamins, that folic is the main one.

Just eat healthy and drink moderatly, and if you can get into a little exercise all the better.

For him -he needs to steer clear of hot baths, keep his swimmers cool and empty his pipes on a regular basis to keep turnover of fresh swimmers in stock for you, try to quit fags if he smokes, keep within the recommended alcohol units. I got my fella Wellman multivitamins because he does smoke.

For you, keep a track of your cycle - no need to go into detail too much with it at the start, but its helpful later on if you need it, and to recognise patterns in moods, boob changes, ovulation twinges and cervical mucos.

Good luck! hope you are not TTC'ing too long :)

    Congrats on starting to TTC!

My friend was 37 when she came off pill for first time in 10+years. She was preg within a month. I'm 29 and was preg within about 4 months of coming off pill. My cycles weren't completely regular but not far off ie; I got a period approx every month.

Some women might take a couple of years to conceive, and sometimes can take 6mths to a year just for your cycle to regulate after pill. There's good & bad stories, but don't worry about it.

You can get Tescos own brand folic acid for less than 2 euro
+1 to everything Neyite said above. You've loads of time, have fun with all the babymaking!!
