    05 Diesel Corolla 1.4 D4D - 10W40 or 5W30 engine oil

It my first oil change since I got the car last year. Castrol.com recommends 5W30 but the chap in the motor factors says its a waste of money putting 5W30 in anything before a 2008 car. I bought the 10W40 off him but haven't changed the oil in the car yet. Still checking it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lets look at this logically. Who should you trust more? The oil checker on the Castrol website or a "chap in a motor factors" who makes a generalised statement that pre 2008 cars don't require anything other than 10w40?

The year of the car has very little to do with the correct oil for that car. Take back the incorrect 10w40 and buy the correct 5w30 oil for your car.
