    Folks,
As above I would be very grateful if any Kia Cee'd SW owners could tell me what their experience of owning the car has been like e.g. reliability, mpg, dealer service, warranty issues, would you buy another? etc. My wife is in the market for a diesel estate and has driven a Kia Ceed and likes it...hence the question.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
My wife drives one. She bought it new and has it 4 years and 65000km and averages 5.7L/100km on diesel which is nowhere near what is quoted in the books. The type driving she does to get that economy (not great) is some motorway and lots of trips of about 20km, not much town or city stuff so the economy should be better according to Kia. She loves it and its fine to live with and drive but we've had some problems, steering rack had to be replaced and tension wheels on one of the engine belts had to be replaced, all done under warranty but not totally FREE. For example when the tension wheel was replaced the warranty covered the wheel and its labour but not the belt and the time to fit that so we cot hit with a bill for what should have been free. Our experience with the dealer was poor (from the start), hence we will not use them again and will switch to a Hyundai dealer as the I30 is identical and will maintain the rest to the 7 year warranty. The car has never let us down so we've no issues there and would buy another but the dealer is a different story.

My sister's got a petrol Ceed and has had no issues. Her boyfriend a diesel Proceed and again no issues. Interestingly his is used almost exclusively around town and there hasn't been any dpf problems.

Does the car have to be serviced by Kia for the 7 year warranty to stand ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,822 ✭✭✭✭EPM

Technically no, but I believe there is some body inspection that has to be carried out by Kia to keep the warranty. I think with a warranty as long as that there is a lot of wriggle room built in.

Afaik, the extended part of the warranty is outside of the normal rules for not having to use main dealer only for servicing, I'm pretty sure the other 4 years are dependent on this being done.

Interesting thread , these Kias have an outstanding warranty , looks too good to be true ! Spoke to a Kia dealer who said that it is as good as it looks and car does not need to be serviced by a main dealer ! Experiences and comments appreciated :o:p

The warranty is 7 years OR 140,000km, whichever comes first. It is a bumper to bumper parts and labour warranty for the duration. Ours had an earth strap loosen and caused the car to not start. A small bit of corrosion at each end of the boot handle due to it brushing off the paint. This was remedied under warranty too. A front drop link went under warranty also. All minor stuff tbh. The boot is massive and thats before the rear seats are folded away!
It does about 5 to 5.5L/100k per tank which is ok i suppose. Engine sounds a little un-refined when cold but is smooth when warm. Plenty of power for my needs also.

I always got it serviced at the dealer because if anything went wrong i might have a battle on my hands. This being while my life and all it brings continues onwards regardless! No thanks.
The warranty is up this year so i'll be doing my own servicing from then on.

Great reassurance for someone buying a second hand Kia as well ;)

Friend has one over 4 years now with no problems. Diesel engine is refined, modern with decent poke for the size. I'm not in the market for one but would be at or near top of list in recommendation to friend or family member.

5.7 L/100km is 49.56 miles to the gallon

On Mainly 20 km trips this is really excellent.

I've a 2011 Ceed sw. Around 14k, no problems yet. Have only opened the bonnet to see what the engine looked like (big was my expert judgement), haven't even needed to refill the windscreen wash.

Coming up to first service time so I'll see how much that costs, will use a main dealer for at least a few years.

Very pleased with it, fuel economy isn't as good as claimed but I've an uneducated hunch that they decided to tune the car for a little more power rather than economy, as having driven just about every 1.6L diesel it feels more nippy than most.

For the most part it drives well - you completely forget it's a little longer than a hatchback until you hit tighter turns at speed. Cruises well on motorways. Interior a bit cheap looking but comfortable. Surprisingly useful but not perfect ipod connectivity via the worryingly expensive additional usb-aux in cable (ripped off to the tune of 60 euro but I wanted to make sure I got a kia one - as I've had bad experiences of cheap ebay cables.)

Would buy another one, except just for variety I like to change manufacturers when I change cars.

"On Mainly 20 km trips this is really excellent."

I have an I40 thats doing 5.4-5.5L/100km over very similar driving, this and the Kia claims is what I was basing my comment on. Those 20km are on a 100km/hr road, no stop / start and constant speed. The newer Cee'd have a 6 speed gear box and I'm sure that's an improvement.
But as I've said overall we're very happy with the car and I'd say that the compacted snow / ice last winter was what caused the damage to the steering column.
Excellent car if you need the estate flexibility when you have small children, its just so handy with buggies and stuff.

Bought a Pro Ceed 1.6EX diesel in 2008 and still have it. Absolutely love it. I have a fairly long commute so there's 95,000km on it. I haven't had an issues with it. Only things I've had to get done were brake pads/discs and recently a fuel filter was replaced. Service costs are between €120 - €140 with a main Kia dealer. And yes I'd definitely buy another one.

I have 2008 ceed sw diesel. After one year steering rack replaced same as above. I left it in for service with main dealer this year and he rang me to say it needed a load of stuff done and it woukld be about 1800 euro. My own mechanic checked the list of faults from main dealer and said most were not needed to be done. this and other issues with main dealer have put me off Kia though when the car is running its fine with 178,000 km on clock just very bad customer care .

Two new doors due to rust and drop links in 2015 no quibble whatsoever, car is 2008 model Cee'd sw crdi, dealer is excellent great service, coming up on 100,000 miles now and still running like new only grump is fuel consumption not as good as we had expected 5.7 l/100km other than great car loads of space and good motorway cruiser

OP are you looking for a new one ?

My partner has a 2008 with 164,000 Kms, drop links recently replaced, given the mileage this is not bad on Irish roads.

Paint work is bad, tonnes of stone chips, looks terrible, very common fault on this model.

Suspension is far too firm, handling good, steering nice and weighty.

Good engine if unrefined, timing chain but not very economical 6.0L/100 Kms mostly motorway.

Kia in the U.S had to refund millions in the U.S due to false economy claims, ye'd be so lucky in Europe where where we always get it up the ass !

245,000km on ours now. Just had a clutch done. Needs another (third)front set of drop links and possibly rear drums due to a noise at the back. I changed one of the hubs but no joy. Driver door hinge is worn too.

Have a 2010 cee'd sw 1.6 diesel 168,000km on the clock. Does 5.4L/100km and get about 900km out of a tank of juice. In the last few months have developed a clunk in the steering when moving and stopped. The clunk only happens at the start of the steering wheel been turnred in either direction. Only the usual running problems like break pads and disks, bushinhgs and drop links replacement after that.

Anyone any info on the steering clunking??
