Depends on the rules of the diocese. Not sure of the boundaries but Meath might be part in the Dublin diocese (definitely no weddings on a Sunday) and part in one or two more??
I know it can be done in the Sligo/Mayo area but that's no help to you!

To be fair to the Church on this one, the priests have to say mass on a Saturday evening and usually again 3 times on a Sunday. This takes them up to 1pm usually. Heading into a round of wedding masses after that may not be something they want to do and I think thats ok.
There are 6 other days in the week when you can get married, pick a Saturday and you'll still have the bank holiday Monday off.

yeah i suppose asking a priest to perform a wedding mass on a sunday aswell as doing a mass in the morning is a bit harsh, the reason we were looking for the bankholiday sunday is because the saturday is booked but never thought of booking another saturday, thanks for your very helpful tips and points

We briefly entertained the idea until we were told that the bishop of Cork & Ross does not permit them. I presume on that basis it's down to the local bishops to decide. Apparently you can get married on a Sunday in Galway and the part of north Clare that's in the same diocese, and I think Cavan was mentioned as another possibility.

In the parish where I'm getting married there is mass on a Saturday evening at 7pm, then on Sunday morning at 8am, 9am, 11am and 12.15pm. Granted there are 2 priests but I can really see why they don't want to have to deal with weddings on a Sunday too.

I know you may have your own reasons for wanting the wedding on a Saturday but its worth looking at a Thursday. I got engaged in November and we didn't want to have a long time between that and getting married and were looking at May/June this year. However, all of the Saturdays were booked out for a year with the places we were interested in and almost all of the Fridays too. For this reason we settled on a Thursday and I'm shocked at how big a difference there is in the price of so many things purely because its a mid week day rather than a weekend.
You could save yourself a lot of money.

Wow!! Didn't know you could get married on a Sunday here. In the UK, weddings are not permitted on a Sunday.

Yes, you can. I was at a wedding on a Sunday in that church in 2010. Lovely picturesque little church and village.
