The ordination of Archbishop Charles J.Brown, the new Apostolic Nuncio for Ireland.

I would imagine that one of his first duties is to appoint 7 new bishops. I wish him every success and blessings in his new role in renewing the Church in Ireland.

I doubt that they will be appointing new bishops. All the signs are that Rome is planning to reduce the number of dioceses here.

Fedor 2 the church today is different to the church of 100, 500 and 1000 years ago. And yet it remains. It will continue to change and it will remain.
The real mystery is how u remain, isn't this your second troll in 2 days or am I mistaken?

Nuncios don't appoint bishops. The appointment is made by the Pope, who takes the advice of the Congregation of Bishops. The nuncio is one, but only one, of the people consulted in relation to the appointment. Others include the outgoing bishop, the bishops of neighbouring dioceses, the metropolitan archbishop, leading clergy in the diocese, and leading lay figures and members of religious institutes in the diocese.

The nuncio is influential, since it is through his office that the views of all these other figures are relayed to Rome. But he certainly doesn't "make the appointment". He is not present when the final decision is taken, and he doesn't announce it.

And this will be particularly true for the new nuncio and the current vacancies; a newly-arrived nuncio knows little about the dioceses of the country he is appointed to, and usually nothing at all about the candidates for office, and he mostly confines himself to compiling the views of others who do have useful insights or experiences, and relaying them to Rome.

"Appoint" was the wrong word, oversee would be more apt! ;)

And yes, the Pope is the only person that ordain bishops! :)

I assume that's your own personal opinion, and that you weren't given the job of spokesperson for the rest of us! ;)
