at our agm the other night .it came up that one of our players who got injured at the end of last year was going private for surgery and it is going to cost approx 7000
unfortunatly the gaa ins will only pay out 4500 max.now we are only a small jnr club at the moment we only have 1500 in the bank and we have to pay affilation etc etc . we are now going to have to fund raise just to pay this medical bill .i am just wondering how do other clubs deal with this
    get extra insurance or what
all the lads that have mortgages are now very nervouse because the club dosent even have the money to tie them over if they did get injured

is gaa to end up only for the big clubs that can afford these costs

Some brokers have a policy specifically for GAA players, it works out @ €20 per month and I think the cover is far better than the GAA cover.
My club had two bad injuries last year also the first in May Cruciate surgeon had to be paid up front player was self employed with no personal insurance cost us similar to yours we have been awarded insurance payout but still havent received it yet 9 months after the injury.
There is some sort of rebate from insurance for clubs this year certain criteria s apply, but check it out as you must have all your affiliations etc up todate.
A good race night after the gold cup @ cheltenham should get you a few grand for very little layout.

Pile of clubs down here in Kerry have held scrap metal collections to raise money for the club handy way of raising funds for the running of the club, quick question do your club run a club lotto? A night at the local greyhound track is also an option

no we dont run a lotto we sell county board tickets instead .we have very few people who will commit to doing any work it is always left to the same few we are a very small parish about 120 houses . a lot of the players do f--k all to help all they do is turn up to matchs and sometimes training .we had an average of 9 training last year

Dental issues aside, and I could be wrong, but I think gaa insurance will only cover you if you get an operation and it will also cover physio bills post the operation, now thats not a lot of good if you need an mri or similar scan plus the expense of seeing a doctor or surgeon then they tell you that you wont need an operation, I do know a few lads this has happened to and the op is right a lot of small clubs cannot afford that expense, or the lads themselves.
