Advice on Laptop Comparison

    Hi all,

My old warhorse (Inspiron 1525) is about to kick the bucket, has BSODed twice on me in the last day or so. I've had hard drive issues before and I reckon the same thing is about to happen.

Rather than repair it I think it's best I get something new. I spotted these two in PC World and was wondering if folk could advise on a possible purchase.

    Toshiba Satellite L750D-14R

    HP Pavilion g6-1220sa

Basically, I'm looking for advice on whether or not it's worthwhile getting a quad core processor (as in the HP) or sticking with a dual-core, as in the Toshiba.

The HP has an AMD A8-3500M processor, and the Toshiba has an AMD E-450 processor.

I'm going to be using the laptop for university work, running the usual programmes, Chrome, GIMP, iTunes, Office, nothing special. I ain't interested in video editing or gaming, but I may look to start learning to DJ in the future, so I have to consider that.

Looking for layman's pros and cons of these laptops in general as well.

Night-meet-day computing power. The E-450 is their low tier offering, it is easily trumped by an i3 and (I would have to check) probably even by the Sandybridge Pentium G-series dualcores.

A8 meanwhile matches up to an i3 or better, and beats just about any of the iCore processor's in a dark alley when it comes to the onboard graphics.

I'm not mad about the G6 body, but the guts in this spec are decent to say the least.

Confirming my suspicions on the processors.

Which is a pity, because I really like how the Toshiba looks :pac:

Overheal, since (from what I gather in Cries of Retail) you work in this kind of area, would there be any other laptops to consider that you would suggest?

That's a brand I was looking at too. Would ASUS be worth splashing out a bit more for? They seem to be pretty well-regarded, relatively speaking.
