Bike Computer Problem

Specifically the Sigma BC1609 sts & cadence.

Bought new one of the above and set up on the bike, everything appears to be working as it should but when I spin the wheel the computer does not register any speed. The battery in the sensor on the fork is working ok and it recognises when the spoke magnet goes by as it flashes green. Does anyone have any experience with these computers or has anybody had the same problem? I've googled but had no joy, don't really want the hassle of sending it back and hoping i've just missed something stupid.

    Thanks
