I am going to be ringing sky tomorrow to change the direct debit details to my fathers account. Can i expect to get the runaround or is it a straightforward process with them?

Do you mean a problem because you are not the account holder?
In which case, yes expect it to be a problem.
Get him to phone for himself or you will need to pretend to be him.
