Would this happen in GAA?

I was present at a meeting for Robbie Keane's/Brian Keher's Club (Crumlin United F.C.) on Monday night. I am still trying to digest the gravity of the disclosures at the meeting. Some of the disclosures as follows; The Clubs Directors have not held an AGM for 9 years. This meeting was only called as a reaction to a meeting called by some Club Volunteers to discuss some of the issues that have come to light within the Club. The Clubs Directors have not produced any financial statements to the Club members in this time. The Clubs Directors would not allow anyone at the meeting to see the Clubs Constitution, but said it was over 30 years old and was years ahead of its time in its foresight! One of the Clubs Directors openly admitted loaning €135,000 (outstanding) of Club funds to a friend. One of the Clubs Directors admitted that he would not be able to source receipts for everything. One of the Clubs Directors said there was an audit been carried out as we speak but did not reveal who was carrying this audit out. The Clubs Directors would not agree to an EGM to be held and said they would have an AGM in June. Attempts were made at the meeting to silence speakers (Club Volunteers) who had questions to ask. Additionally, attempts were made to finish the meeting without any explanation given by Clubs Directors on the issues aforementioned. I have posted this thread to highlight to the Football People in this country that lots of good work is been done to develop our young players on a Voluntary basis, but unfortunately, things are not always as they seem. As a Club Volunteer Manager I now have to look at my position within the Club and decide what is the best course of action for me to take.

I havent a notion what this has to do with GAA at all, other than it becoming another flaming war between 2 different sports. It might happen in GAA, it might not. it has no relevance whatsoever though in speculating on it.

I am struggling to know what this has to do with the GAA as it is more to do with the running of a club rather than a sport, the same question could be asked of rugby, golf, ICWA, or whatever type of club you want.

I can't see it going any other way than a them vs. us debate, which I really don't want to have to mod, but I'm open to correction and will give the benefit of the doubt and leave it open for now.

@Other Mods, feel free to close this if you wish.

OP, your concerns may be best directed at a national newspaper rather than a forum like this. Might be worth getting in touch with an investigative journalist, if what you have outlined above is actually the case.

Or possibly the Gardaí with funds of €135k going astray.

Of course it could happen in any club/organisation/society that is not properly run. If the members were prepared to let the club be run without insisting on an annual Treasurer's report at an AGM then they have only themselves to blame.

Naturally I am not condoning any wrongdoing that might have occurred but, as other posters have suggested, I would certainly ask for an investigation by the Gárdaí and/or responsible journalists.

Why ask specifically if it could happen in the GAA? Trying to stir something?

Surely by its nature an AGM is annual???? To have not had one must go against the clubs own constitution?

Theres enough squabbling on here between soccer and GAA fans without this. Surely it should be in the soccer forum?

Zero to do with the GAA.

I seen this same thread yesterday on a soccer forum. That forum is closed for maintainance as of today. Bit of a minefield if you ask me.

I'm not qualified to answer him, but give the guy a break instead of getting all paranoid..

Because it's a thread about a soccer team in a GAA forum.
If he wants to post it, he should build up enough posts and apply for membership of the soccer forum. I would say the same thing if a GAA thread was posted on the Soccer forum.

Edit: I see he's posted the exact same thread on AH, Golf and Health & Fitness. He's basically spamming.
