    Hi all,

Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong forum & please move if needed.

I have my messages in gMail itemised under varying labels. One particular label has near on 1600 messages within it. I want to look through that label for key-words ... is their any way to do that?

i.e.: besides opening the near on 1600 messages under that label and reading the contents of each?

    Thanks in advance,
    kerry4sam

Add label:labelname to your search and it will find only messages with your keywords and matching that label. So if you wanted to find funny cat photos in your massive collection of animal photography you'd search for lolcats label:animalpics

    Thanks,

That was quick! I done that there and it brought up some but not everything that I know is within under the key-words though.

Hmm. There now I'm not sure. A search for any one label should show all mails, even if there are also other labels applied. Are you sure that all the appropriate mails are labelled correctly?

If they're all from the same sender or a limited number of senders you can search using from:name/email address in the same manner.

Yeah they should all appear alright.

Ummm, I'll try and get creative here.

    Thanks again Aidan :)

Only other thing I could think of is if the messages might no longer be on the server. Do you only check your messages using the Gmail web interface, or do you also check it on a computer or phone using a mail client?

I use computer; phone and ipad when checking my gMail. It depends when they come in and what I have to hand at the time to check.

I know I've deleted e-mails from my phone but they still appear on the web interface afterward and are only marked as read through that and are not deleted

Ah, POP account :) Check those devices too for the missing mails, as its possible that they may have been downloaded to the client and then the client told the server to remove them (especially if that client on Windows is Outlook).

This will bug me until I find what I am looking for! I know they should be in there, they just need some prying & pulling out.
Not outlook though. Try not to ask me any techie questions. I'll spend some time on this later and see what I come up with.

    Thanks a mil Aidan :)

    boom!

    sorted Aidan.

I got creative with my spelling. Like with my own name, people spell & pronounce it differently, I got creative and changed the spelling of what I was looking for and found what I was looking for in my e-mails.

Thanks a mil again Aidan, appreciate it :)

Glad you got sorted - my reply is probably a bit late, but just in case it helps someone else.

I have found that the 'Search Mail' functionality in Gmail (in general, not relating to labelled emails etc) is a bit funny.

For example, if I have an email with the word "example" in it, type "examp" into the search box and press 'Search Mail' button, it returns no search matches.

Type in the exact word "example", search again and it finds the email no worries.

So, seems to be a problem in searching for substrings, but maybe there are advanced search options or something which I don't know about.
