Had trouble with this bit due to water but managed to get it cleaned and working again,
it was not completely gone just at times always had interior lights.
anyway the pcb board was connected back into the car to check to see if it was 100% and its was before being put back in plastic case,
then it stopped working completely(remote key, windows, mirrors lights all gone completely.
my friend thinks he had screwdriver in his hand when connecting back in the bare board and may have crossed some contacts.

    ALL fuses checked and ok

First I'd take it out and inspect under good light with a good magnifier. It could just be dry solder joints or broken track on the pcb, I don't know how many times I've repaired things over the years that worked find until you put the pcb back in the box. Often the extra mechanical stress is enough to lift a pin off a dry pad or bend a broken track open circuit rule out the simple things before moving on to the complex. Connector is possibly corroded too that would be another first check.

ok thanks will look at the board
friend does think it may have crossed the contacts accidentally as car ignition was ON too so hopefully will be able to be repaired

had a look at the board and it seems ok to me, he may have blown something on the board especially when the ignition was on when it happened ... would that be possible ??
Drivers window on the car is half way down and cant get it up now either

    thanks

Definitely possible a lot of the parts on the board would be 5V parts that wouldn't take kindly to 12V. Before you blame your friend those harnesses are very problematic. Water can seep a long way up the wires by capilliary action so you may have corrosion and a break further up.

Sine nothings working check the basic power connections. Not sure what year yours is but assuming its a 2000 B5 (i have wiring diagram on my desk) then:
brown wire pin 23 should be earth make sure it measures very low resistance to the body
    red/blue pin 22 (fuse 14 10A) should be 12V all the time
    blk/blue pin 5 (fuse 6 5A) should be 12V at start
red/blk pin 15 (fuse 114 15A this is on the relay panel) 12V all the time
red/yel pin 12 (fuse 111 15A this is on the relay panel) 12V all the time

Hopefully you've just missed the fuses and circuit breakers on the relay panel.

Thanks, its a 2001 model, the thing is even when it got water damaged still had it windows and mirrors working sometimes and always had the central locking and interior lights working perfect all the time as these never give any trouble,
we did repair all of the damaged wiring and got everything working again but now all has shut down on us and the fuses on the drivers side panel are all ok.
Are there any fuses down around the area of this CCU on the passenger side that could have blew etc

Did you check the fuses underneath the steering wheel? You have to remove the lower dash panel to get at them.

As far as I remember the Fuse for the CCU is in the Drivers side panel. From memory I think its a 15 amp fuse.

fuses all ok looks like the ccu is knackered afterall, i can get one is the scrapyard and im told i do not need to get it programmed in.
i think to get the remote on key working again it will need to be programmed in for this only

Good luck you're nearly there anyway its such a numbnut place to put an electronic unit I can't count eh number of times my kids have dropped drinks or my cup of coffee has flown out of the cup holder straight onto the bloody thing. I assume water came in though the polen filter housing and you sealed it up.

under the battery tray was clogged up but that sorted now
and i got another unit that was tested and matches my own code
but its not working anything on my car so maybe something else wrong like a fuse afterall
i checked the fuses on the Drivers side panel and all ok..
Maybe there is a special fuse somewhere in the car for this comfort control unit...

hi, got this nearly sorted as have now got everything working again except for fuel cap release and off course the remote central locking but i heard that this can be reprogrammed manually using the key - anyone know how to do this

    thanks
