anyone used carprotect warranty?

hi
i am off buying a car at a garage in dublin.
the car does not come with a warranty.
the salesman is giving a 24month warranty at a additional price.
the warranty is from carprotect.
i was told it covers everything under the bonnet, mechanical problems.
the carprotect website only provides warranty for car anything 150k kms or less. but the car I am looking at is 155k kms.
i am bit worried if the warranty will really cover any problems in future?

From looking at the website the max claim for car cover is only €2k so if there was serious issues with the car you might not be covered for the full amount of repairs.

I was offered this cover myself when I bought my car last November but i didn't bother with it.

If he's trade he has to give you a warranty. The fact that he's trying to force you to pay up for something that he's supposed to include in the sale says to me that you should run away.

You'd need your head examined buying a high mileage car from a dealer, you will be told to PFO if anything goes wrong and as you've already discovered, the warranty isn't worth s**t.

2 months after I bought my last car and got this warranty a mechanic noticed a leaking shock which they wouldn't cover. Reason being is that unless it was a manufacturer fault they consider it a consumable... a fkn consumable? It's a shock!

You are incorrect. There is an obligation for a trade seller to sell a car that is as described, there is no obligation on him to offer a warranty.

Puzzling, this! You do not know the OP "....will be told to PFO"


People/buyers are not well versed on warranties. If you get a warranty from a dealer you have paid for it. Dealers factor the cost of warranty work into their sale prices, with several hundred € a typical price.

In fairness, shocks are consumables.

OP - you need to read through the policy document to see what's covered. If it's there in black and white that something is covered then it is, otherwise it's not. TBH, i'm thinking you'd be a lot safer buying privately from someone you trust.

A shock is a consumable. Nobody's going to warranty a part like a shock absorber when you could be hitting every pothole in Ireland on your travels.

Warranties cover parts that are not expected to wear out. They will not cover items like brakes, clutches, shock absorbers, etc.

Often these kinds of warranties exclude "wear and tear" to an extent that they basically cover very little. Before I had a gearbox that wouldn't go into 3rd, but a similar company refused to cover it because the part was very worn but not cracked. They basically only cover catastrophic failure of parts.

i am looking into a Honda Accord with 150k which is not a high mileage considering Honda's reputation. it does not mean that they are fool proof and hence i was looking into additional warranty.

If it's cheap it's not going to do any harm. They'd probably cover things like turbo failure, head gasket etc.

Only if the buyer signs a piece of paper that says he is buying it 'as seen', otherwise the provisions of S. 14 (2) of the Sale of Goods Act 1980 applies..

Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business there is an implied condition that the goods supplied under the contract are of merchantable quality

Which effectively means that the car will work as expected and carries an implied warranty.

You serously believe that a dealer selling a car with 155K kms on the clock will fix a broken gearbox if the OP comes back after a month? You haven't been reading the horror stories on this forum outlining peoples dealing with indie dealers.

People are better versed than you think. The whole point of buying from a dealer is that you are buying from a professional who has checked the car out and who will fix any faults that arise within a reasonable period. That's why people are prepared to pay more to a dealer than the same car bought in a private sale.

This dealer is looking for jam on both sides, he wants the OP to pay a dealer price for the car and he wants him to pay for the warranty. The OP should walk away and buy privately or at most pay the dealer the price he'd expect to pay in a private sale and tell him to stuff the warranty.

its a 2007 accord petrol with 155k kms
