    Need new car asap , other one has died. Do quite bit of mileage as I commute every day but is it worth paying extra for a diesel. Options are:

    02 Megane 1.9 dsl 75000 miles @ 2.5k
    07 Ford Focus 1.6dsl 79000 miles @ 6k (NCTd)
    07 Peugeot 407 dsl 1.6 60,000 miles @ 7k (NCTd)
    08 Ford Focus 1.6dsl 81,000 miles @ 7.5k (NCTd and taxed till Jul, lower tax band)
    OR

    09 Renault Megane 1.4 PETROL, 21,000 KM - 8.5k (max budget)

    Is the petrol better cos has low mileage or will the fact that diesel get more mpg and take more mileage be a better choice. Likely to keep until dead.....

    From the list, i would stay away from 02 Megane and go for 07 Focus.

    Somehow it feels there should be more options for 8k budget, not only French and Focus.. what else you need from a car? compfort, space, sporty, gadgets etc..

    do approx 25,000 miles. per anum.
    Max budget 8k but prefer under 7
    dont care about gadgets
    have 3 kids so needs to be ok but not huge, also own a laguna so can take that on family trips etc.
    Not limited to any particular brand/country
    solid reliable car that is economical and will last
    husband will be driving it on his own a large amount of the time
    dont want a 3 door with kids
