Mirrorless camera price justified ?

At the risk of turning this into a Mirrorless cameras vs DSLR argument, do people think the price on some of these is justified. The major pay off being that you can pretty much have these with you at all time.

Personally weight has always been a factor for me and i've missed out of thousands of shots because i've left my camera at home. Something like the Fuji x100 costs about/almost the same as a Canon 60D body.
These days i find myself taking photos with my iPhone because i dont have my camera on me.

I liked this review here: http://zackarias.com/for-photographers/gear-gadgets/fuji-x100-review/

    Technical review:http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/FujifilmX100/

I've found x100 to be best of the current bunch, i know it doesnt have an interchangeable lens but the successor Xpro 1 seems a bit too big !
Its been out a year now and the price has dropped a bit so thinking of taking the plunge, any thoughts?

    some shots i really liked:

    I bought a secondhand panasonic gf1 recently.
Its portability is great and though the lens I have isn't the best it still takes really nice pics.

Bought it primarily to have for street photography and am thinking about bringing it to work and keeping it there so I can use it at lunchtime or going home in the evening.

I've been thinking of getting a more portable, some to have in the pocket ratehr than lugging a camera around! The X100 would defo be high up my list of ones to get

Can't decide between the nex 5n and the 600d myself.

I had been waiting on the new Fuji camera for ages, I guess I was hoping it would just be the x100 with interchangeable lenses!

agree'd with the OP that it's a little bit too big

I too have missed lots of nice shots because I haven't had my dslr with me!

once I get a bit of money together I will probably pick up an x100 for myself!

I have a Fuji X10 (much cheaper) and so far I 'm really impressed with the quality of images. It feels robust and has a nice rangefinder feel to it with a zoom lens.

I couldn't justify spending 1000 euro on a point and shoot

Thanks for the input everyone !
swingking, thats the question, its slightly more than just a point and shoot but yet it acts like a point and shoot, x100 has a bigger sensor than the x10 so better low light photos and better depth of field. Yet 800 does seem alot but perhaps the leisure out weights the price

I've a x100 & I can honestly say its my favourite camera ever. I like it more than my 5DmkII or my old 7D. I take it everywhere.
The review zack arias posted on his blog sold it to me & I since agree 110% with it all.

do you use your SLRs as much as it?

I'm really not taking enough photos at the minute to justify it... gotta start attaching my 500d to myself at all times!

I used it so much that 7D DLSR started to gather so much dust - I sold it!
    I then bought a 5DII ;)

90% of my recent shots have been on the x100.

It has its flaws. Christ it really really does. However I simply love it. Because what it does, it does so sooooooo well!

A few of my recent favourites

    Edit
The x100 out performs the canon 7D on noise. The 7D struggles at 1600. The x100 fairs better at 3200. I would say its on a far (if not slightly ahead) of the 5DII which it comes to handling noise

I just bought an X10 yesterday.
I was gonna get it before christmas, but I wanted to check out the 'orb' issue in more detail first - came to the conclusion that I can live with it.

Got a better deal in Jessops than Amazon, so well happy.

Love the feel of it, and the manual zoom is great, works so well, I don't know why other cameras don't follow suit.

I don't find the UI to be as bad a some reviews gave it.

So far happy, just need to get out and about with it now.

Saw this Canon Rumors this morning:

    http://www.focus-numerique.com/test-1354/compact-canon-g1-x-powershot-bruit-electronique-12.html

It's an ISO performance comparison of all the large senor compacts out there.

It would appear that Canons new G1X beats them all, including the X100 (only by a hair though), at least in a test environment.

the x100 is better at 12,800 than the canon there. anyway, it's just pixel peeping.

I don't know, the Canon looks better to my eye, definitely in terms of colour, but when you zoom in you can see the X100 is slightly sharper.

And yes, it is just pixel peeping. Just found it interesting that Canons humble G series has just gotten such a large boost in performance.

........and a hefty boost in price too!!

But to be fair, it is a different concept to the previous G series, as far as I know it is not a replacement for the G12, as it will continue to be sold along side it.

Was debating replacing the LX5, so now the question is with the G1X or X100.

i wouldn't quite call canon's G series 'humble'; they've never been a particularly cheap camera.

I've owned countless SLR's and compacts alike. at the moment I own a canon 7D and a Fuji X100. the X100 just makes me want to take photos. such a sharp little beaut for all occasions. and its FUN! the most essential element to a good camera in my opinion

I had a google and some of the prices are staggering, I understand they are making a complete new system but for the prices they ask for Fuji/Canon/Nikon its ridiculous

Think I'll take the plunge on the X100F. Only decision really is black or silver?!

I have the x100 in silver... it's got a more retro look to it which is nice. It does look quite cool.

I've been debating a second X-T2 or a X100F for about a month now... the needle is currently pointing to the X100F in black.

My only hesitation with the X100F is the lens... I have a 23mm f1.4 and it is a beaut. Knowing the X100F has the same lens as the X100 means it just won't come close the sharpness of the f1.4. I love the images out of the X100 (even if they are a bit soft) and have no doubt I'd looove the images out of the X100F... but I looooooooove the images I get with the 23mm f1.4. (The dilemma here being that I can't justify having both the f1.4 lens and the X100F).

Pushed the button on it last night. Went black. Gorgeous! Such a nice machine!

Need to get a nice cover for it now. If you have any recommendations that'd be great. I'm going to buy a black leather strap separately on Etsy. Have gotten a few there now and they're top notch.

Awesome... I'm sooo not jealous :p I'll be able to spend a few hours with one at the end of the month so I'll make my final call then.

TBH, when I bought the X100, it had a lovely cover but I preferred it naked :) I bought it to be a light, nimble, everyday camera and I lost some of that by wrapping it up in a cover. I'll check the brand of the cover this evening as it is very nice despite me preferring not to use it.

What strap you going for? I have a light leather wrist strap for the x100 but I'd prefer to get something so it can hang around my neck without bouncing around too much and also allowing quick access to bring to eye.

I know and I think I'll probably go 'coverless' most of the time - I'd just like to store it with a cover. Would be curious to see which one you got.

With regards straps, thinking along the lines of something simple like this https://www.etsy.com/ie/listing/255992805/black-leather-camera-strap-ideal-for but I'd prefer if the rivet was black too. Thin strap would look nice but it's quite thick looking so I might go for something a bit wider and thinner.

The real "advantage" of morrorless cameras is not size or weight. There really isn't that much difference in those.
The only real advantage is that there isn't a mirror in the way of the image sensor, allowing for fully electronic shutter... which means no moving parts to cause camera shake on still shots on a tripod.
Most of the current generation of dSLRs have a "live" view mode that eliminates that advantage, while potentially giving much greater depth of field effects and higher resolving power due to larger image sensors.
They are a tiny bit smaller, but not enough that you won't be carrying a bag, especially if you have multiple lenses.

I'm an SLR person myself. I have a full frame dSLR and two 35mm SLR's, so I'm perhaps a bit biased and/or snobbish about this, but SLR's are more of an artist's tool, in my opinion.

You're right, you are biased towards dslrs. Very much so. The only advantage of a mirrorless camera is no shutter shake? Please. Do some research before giving that advice. I've been a DSLR shooter for about 7 years. I got my first mirrorless camera last year. In 2 weeks I'll be fully mirrorless. I can tell you, it's not because I'm concerned about reducing shake from shutter.

    Snap :)

Picked up my X100F at the weekend. It's everything I feared and hoped it would be. I already love it like I loved the original X100 but now its comparable to the X-T2 in performance so it's just superb. The "fear" - if you can even call it that... it's more of a love/hate thing - is the lens. I've been spoiled with the 23mm f1.4 - it's just such a stunning lens. The f2 on the X100F doesn't have the same sharpness... BUT... it does have its own dreamy character that makes it stand apart. So yeah, it's exactly as I thought... the X-T2 paired with the 23mm f1.4 is the technically better system but the X100F just brings that intangible creative spark, plus is so much smaller, lighter and quieter (i.e. practically silent). So far, so happy :)

great! i only got to get mine out for a proper run over the weekend. was just candid pics so I pretty much left everything on auto and I got some really nice images from it. delighted with it and as you say - take the fake shutter noise off it and it's pretty much silent.

Yup, and that silence was a big selling point for me. I managed to get a load of shots of my daughter (7 months) yesterday without her taking much heed. With the X-T2 (not that it's crazy noisy at all) she'd hear the shutter and all she'd want to do is grab the camera from me :D

I've ISO and shutter on auto (configured with min shutter speed / max ISO) so I just work the aperture ring to suit the shot and let the camera keep the exposure right. The compensation dial is handy then to just make on the fly adjustments... though it's quite stiff to use. Hopefully it'll loosen up a bit with time.
