Is there a Dublin based walk in Lab Supplies who sell Anhydrous Acetone, or 99.5% - 99.8%?

What do you need it for? Acetone can be dried with Calcium Sulphate if needs be...does it need to be a high purity, or just free of water? (as opposed to free of water/methanol/acetic acid - regular acetone impurities).

Needed for a moisture sensitive reaction, so needs to be moisture free, but also alcohol free. Have read about using anhydrous magnesium sulfate to "dry" acetone.

I wouldnt recommend Mag Sulphate as first choice - may be just acidic enough to induce aldol conditions, according to a lecturer I had once when I had a similar problem. Anhyd. Calcium Sulphate would probably be better, or anhyd. Potassium Carbonate, followed by distillation if you really need it. Avoid molecular sieves.

Although I generally distill any Acetone I get in regardless of grade, so to answer your first question, I'd say you'd need to get high grade Acetone from Sigma-Aldrich to be sure of purity. They're based in Arklow.

What type of reaction are you carrying out? Are you using acid chlorides?
