Just seen this yesterday but forgot to post. I seen a good tablet for €199 in Tesco, Dun Laoghaire. I googled the specs and they are the same I seen in Tesco

    I do not recommend that.

I've bought the Tab211 a while back and despite of having a 1Ghz arm 11 CPU its extreme sluggish. The screen is nowhere close in touch quality as a cheapish phone (you almost have to chisel things into).

Android 2.3 is not only outdated but it was never designed for tablets which means they are heavily customised and not officially supported by Google which leads into that there is very likely no original Android market on the tablet.

Whatever they say (there are other markets available) nothing compares to the original Android market to get the Apps you want to.

Oh and take in mind that there is pretty much no real support from Yarvik and their forum is a joke.

If you wait a few months you get better Android 4.0 tablet for the same price or even cheaper but I personally would never ever touch gain a Yarvik.

I bought one of these for the girlfriend.
Piece of Sh**e.. really rubbish. Couldn't even do the things it said on the box (the one on the shelf) like youtube etc...

Drove myself round the bend for two nights trying to get it to display RTE Player etc.. and I work in computers so I should know a bit about it.
Kept crashing out of the web browser etc.. nothing worked basically.

And like someone else around here said.. their support forums are a comedy act.

Managed to get them to give me a full refund ("not fit for purpose") and went across the road to Currys and bought a Sony tablet S for €399..

Worlds of difference.. it just works.. she's happy out now watchin RTE Player and all the rest.

Basically, go for a brand name (Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, ASUS transformer) and make sure its got a dual-core processor.

Yes they are twice as expensive.. but they work and work like a charm..

Using one of them you understand why Android took off. Its fun.

Using a Yarvik you'd think the whole thing was a con job.. But thats what the Yarvik is...

A friend of mine bought one of these. Had it about a month and when he was just putting it down on the table, the screen cracked. Really easily. Yarvik do not supply replacement parts. Better off avoid this one.

Neighbours son won this exact tablet. I had to "set it up" for him. Its absolutly rubbish.

You would be much better off buying a used 1st Gen iPad.

Ditto. Absolutely avoid. Even operation of orienting the screen from portrait to landscape causes it to bomb out of the stock browser!

And a lousy charge connector point. Designed to break.

came across this tablet when browsing hackaday and am considering buying one for the father for christmas,

    http://hackaday.com/2012/10/02/ipad-external-battery-case-forced-to-work-with-a-non-ipad-tablet/

    reviewed here

    http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/38815-pipo-max-m1-vs-aoson-m11/

    available here - del £15

    http://ingadget.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=61&product_id=62

absolutely zero experience with either this retailer or product but might be worth a look instead of shelling out almost same money for tesco rubbish. IPS capacitive screen and running JB(stock?) so hopefully as close as you can get to a nexus tablet with an offbrand

Depends what you want. If you are spending around €200 and a 7" tablet will do then a Google Nexus 7 is a good tablet available locally and with the new price structure the 16Gb model should be around €200.

If you are looking for something cheaper then one of these might suit from the UK.

If it's a 10" tab you are looking for then nothing particularly springs to mind but someone else might have a suggestion.

IMO, I'd always go for a 'main brand' instead of one of these units. I just wouldn't hand over that much money for something that may or may not meet my expectations. Sorry if that's a bit snobbish sounding but I just wouldn't trust it after seeing some of the cheap crap Chinese knock offs my friends have bought in the past.

If I were you, I'd go for the nexus 7, fantastic piece of kit and probably the best spec out there for a 7' tablet.

You could go for this if she is over when the offer is still on and if she has somewhere to post it to..
    http://www.brandsmartusa.com/ProductViewer.aspx?mid=161741

(Enter zip code 10005 for NYC)

and if she adds this to the basket ($0.88c)
    http://www.brandsmartusa.com/ProductViewer.aspx?mid=151053

She can get an extra $20 off by entering the code BM102612

It totals at (Delivered to her Hotel or wherever) $188.79 - Just over $60 Cheaper than bhphotovideo...

This store is very well regarded and I have personally bought in their place on he same street as the New Yorker hotel.. Granted it was a simple point and shoot camera and a lens for my canon but the selection of stuff here is mind boggling... Just be careful of the opening hours as they hire a lot of staff of a specific religion and hey cose for their holy days.
