    Hello all

I'm looking for some advice re. purchasing a pre-amp.

I am currently arranging a basic bedroom studio setup.
Laptop, USB Audio interface, SE220, SM57 etc.

I think I should get a pre-amp to boost the signal from mics into soundcard.

I would be recording acoustic guitar, vocals, mandolin, handclaps / basic percussion (not live kit), Electric guitar through amp.

Can you tell me would one of the following be a wise choice for this?
    http://www.thomann.de/ie/behringer_mic200_tube_ultragain_preamp.htm
    http://www.thomann.de/ie/art_tube_mp_studio_v3.htm

If not, why? and what would be? Both of these are within my current budget, but I would be prepared to save a bit more if this is a bad idea.

Any advice is welcome and thank you in advance.

What usb audio interface are you using? Most likely the preamp in your usb interface will be better than either of those units.

    A Line 6 Pod Ux1

I have recorded some bits and pieces with an SM58 which should have comparable response to the SM57 I plan to get. It really comes through as being very weak, especially with acoustic guitar.

I am hoping the LDC will help the acoustic part but I thought in any case - I should boost the incoming signal and carve frequencies out rather than have a weak input and try and boost it in the DAW / with plugin.
