Xoro HRC 9000 EPG

    Hi Everyone,

I got the HRC 9000 and just wondering why the epg only shows channels an hour or 2 ahead on satellite channels ? it shows a full week on RTE channels.

Also you can't see what you have set to record ?

Series link would also be nice!

But other than that it's a great little receiver, with great picture quality on good quality HD channels like BBC HD,

SD quality is the usual, some channels compress the hell out of the transmission and they look crap, but that of course, isn't the fault of the HRC 9000!

Because it's not Freesat Compatible. Neither Sky nor Freesat transmit anything more than now/next on DVB format. RTE is using plain DVB like most of rest of Europe Satellite & Terrestrial

No Irish channel in Saorview is transmitting Series Link yet, apparently they will later, and that might work on Xoro as it will be DVB format and not MHEG5 based.

Freesat uses Proprietary EPG for more than now/next and Series Link. It's two boxes, but "Freesat HD" PVR works properly and completely (nothing else does for UK FTA satellite) and a Saorview box for Saorview.

The clue is in the name. The Xoro is a budget generic combo. You got what you bought.

    Hi Watty,

To be honest I got what I could afford, When I can I will get a better one. I surely wasn't expecting all the bells and whistles as with a 400-500 Euro receiver.

As a matter of interest, I was looking at one of the quad tuner receivers, 2 sat, 2 ter.

Do you know any of them that would have the 7 day epg even on sat channels ?

    Thanks

It's not a matter of money. A €500 receiver isn't "Freesat HD" and "Saorview" compatible either. Such a thing doesn't exist. The closest you can get is either a high end Linux set-box or PC (windows or Linux) with 2 x Sat + 2 x DTT tuners and MHEG5 module. But neither is anything like properly compatible on Satellite for "Freeview", not far off compliant for Saorview if the MHEG5 works.

There are zero "freesat HD" tuners with ANY terrestrial tuner.

Some Linux based boxes do have 7 day EPG, either by internet XML files or even reading the Freesat EPG, but are not supporting other Freesat features.

No PVR at all yet is Saorview certified.

The Triax 537 was supposed to be a Saorview certified combo, but it is a disaster. Not a proper PVR anyway as only has one tuner of each.

Is there any sat receivers that work with the epg ?

    freesat branded boxes.

I bet "freesat" branded receivers are not available as combo's ?

    You did read post #4?
    ... A €500 receiver isn't "Freesat HD" and "Saorview" compatible either. Such a thing doesn't exist. ....

There are zero "freesat HD" tuners with ANY terrestrial tuner.

There is no significant market for a Combo Freesat/DTT box. People in UK mostly have Freeview (DTT), and Freesat only if there is no or partial Freeview reception.

For free to air UK TV there is nothing as good as a "Freesat+ HD" PVR
    • Never need to scan or tune, Automatic
    • Interactive works
    • BBC extra video streams work with Menu
    • Ethernet and iPlayer (IP address permitting)
    • Easy to use
    • Full 7 day Detail guide 100% works and won't later fail as it might on some Linux boxes
    • Full Series Link
    • Last minute program time recording changes automatic
    • Dual Tuner
    • HD on HDMI and better SD of HD channels on SCART
    • No subscription
    • Backed by all main UK Broadcasters
    • Will not "go bust" or get disabled as it's the Official UK Fill-in replacement for DTT, legally required to give full UK coverage.

It's a little like Sky+ HD except guaranteed to be free. You only have to buy the box. Some models have ability (via Diseqc and "Other Channels" non-Freesat mode) with external hardware and 2nd Ka-Band LNBF to get Saorsat when it starts.

Note that Saorsat is just a backup/fill in of Saorview and in reality Saorview only has 5 real channels (the RTEjr, RTE1+1 and RTE news now are just repeats of the RTE1 & 2 content) and of those only 3 are Proper Irish channels. So using a 2nd box or Saorview TV with a "Freesat HD" box isn't a big deal, nor is having to access the Irish channels via separate menu on a "Freesat HD" PVR a big deal if Saorsat starts.

If you watch much UK TV, or are "technically challenged" to add Transponders, scan and edit and delete channel lists to get rid of junk after each scan, then you can't beat a "Freesat HD" PVR for free UK TV.

Hope you don't mind if I butt in here and ask if a Humax recorder box solves a few problems here...as it gives you a 7 day EPG ???

A Humax "Freesat+ HD" PVR or any other "Freesat" branded box gives full EPG on the Freesat channels. Which is about 99.7% of the useful FTA channels.

Humax may make non-Freesat gear. I don't know. There are makers with Freesat and non-Freesat boxes (different markets/Countries)

    Hi,
I've had the Humax Foxsat HDR for a couple of years now and couldn't fault it.
I also have Sky+ which I will most likely cancel as soon as the Heineken Cup rugby final is over.
The Humax does everything the Sky+ does ( 7 day epg, series link, pause live tv etc) and even gives me BBC, ITV, and CH4 all in HD which requires an additional sub with SKY.

I recently bought one of these HRC 9000 Combi receivers but I am having a lot of problems with it. The main problem is that the audio is about 2 seconds behind the picture. It is especially bad on the terrestrial channels. Supposed to be some firmware released soon according the the guys I purchased it from to sort this issue but I can't find anything. Any ideas ?

This is my first post here so apologies if I have posted in the wrong thread etc.

hi - i have a xoro 9000 since before christmas and have just one issue with it, wondering if anyone else seeing the same.

my BBC One HD and BBC HD channels are being displayed as squashed/pinched or i suppose 4:3 aspect ratio (don't know the technical term sorry about that) - they are the only channels that are showing like this - the rest are displaying properly in 16:9 widescreen - the non HD version of BBC One is displaying fine

anyone seeing this? or is there somewhere i can change how these channels are displayed? doesn't work if i change the aspect ratio on the TV

Change it in the box itself...
    • Menu button
    • System Setup
    • TV System
      • Change 'Aspect Mode'
        • from default '16.9'
        • to 'Auto'

Oh sorry i also have one more question.

I am having trouble getting RTE Jr, it appears in the channel list and added ok but when i select it nothing is shown.

Anyone else with that problem? thanks again

Depends on time of day. Saorview or boxes with MHEG5 will put up a screen explaining if it's not on air.

Any way to upload a current channel list for this box or do I have to use the remote to manually add/delete/edit/sort stuff? Its a PITA with multiple listings for the same channels all over the place. :(

EDIT: Nevermind...I found a listing and a tool to make it on tvtrade.ie

I installed Xoro HRC 9000+ Combo box today. With regard to the recording function, I just cannot figure out how to access what I have recorded. Also it seems easy enough to record the current programme but I can't seem to be able to set it to record something in the future say, in an hours time. Would be greatful for some assistance.
