Counselling and Psychotherapy

    Hi

I was attending a councillor in Leixlip before Christmas, found him helpful but I just can’t afford to go to him as regularly as he thinks is needed (60 euro a week)

I know you can’t put a price on your health, including mental health, but with a mortgage, three children and all the costs that go with that, I’m finding it hard to justify that fee.
Does anyone know of a cheaper, or even free service in the north Kildare / Dublin West area that could be helpful?

I have looked up Aware who do group sessions, don’t mind attending a group, think that might be good for me as I don’t spend much time with people anymore outside of work/family, but the councillor says my issues are as much anxiety based as depression, so don’t think that’s what Aware focus on?

Any help here would be very much appreciated

    Thanks

Have you mentioned this to your counsellor? He/she might be willing to offer it at a lower rate if you explain your financial situation.

Other than this there are people who are training as psychotherapists who's fees will be a lot less (just don't know any in your area)

Maybe contact Aware and ask them, if you explain how you are feeling. Depression and anxiety can be interlinked in a lot of cases so I'm sure its something that they have encountered before.

Good Luck and fair play for trying to find other ways around your situation. :)

    Hi, thanks for the support

Yes, I think he acknowledged the cost before I did, mentioned that if I was to reduce going to him every week to say every fortnight or every three weeks, I would not be getting the proper help I need and wasting my money a bit

He’s a nice man, not pushy about keeping up appointments or anything, but didn’t offer any sort of discount either.

I will contact Aware so, I did feel a group could be good for me, to talk to people with similar issues.

Yes. Contact the Lucan Family Centre in Hanbury Lane, they are only down the road from you. They offer counselling on a sliding scale for payment according to what you can afford, and they're lovely people.
