MSI €495-->Has a dedicated GPU, you don't need one but I'll put it up here anyway. I never had an MSI though.
    Asus €500
    Asus €510-->HDD bit bigger.
Lenovo €517-->HDD getting bigger. You mentioned storing stuff.
Lenovo €548-->Intel i5, i3 will do you fine though.
Lenovo €562-->17 inch screen,i3, Good GPU.
    Lenovo €574
    Asus €610
    Asus

If I was buying new, I'd get one of them. I've a few more in this Thread if ya wanted to go cheaper.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm also looking into laptops for my girlfriend.

Budget is around the €500 give or take but looking for decent bang for buck.

Her main requirement is a laptop to be able to give power point presentations for work but other than that her use will be general movies, music, internet etc. (unless i get my hands on it for photo editing etc on the go since my laptop died last year and never got replaced;) )

Looking for a 2nd gen i3 processor or even i5 if there is a good deal going.

Came across this (Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-29W), one which seems like a good deal, on saveonlaptops.co.uk for £480 with a €110 cash back offer. So would work out around the €485ish for an i5-2410M processor, 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM.

    Thoughts??

Not sure what Toshiba are like for quality or which other brands to look at or avoid.

You may want to think about some kind of dedicated GPU if big into the photo editing. With the Cashback it's a good deal--->if they don't make it a pain in the hole to get it. I know it says 28 days after receipt of Claim but I'd have to see it to believe it nowadays.

Nothing wrong with Toshiba, most brands/Models are the same really at this price range.

Pointless post is pointless with no specs or links.

    It's not on their site.

Sorry to hajack this thread - but -

That Asus for 500 from komplett looks the Biz. Am seriously tempted, i wanted a Toshiba or Asus because they seem solid, more so than say - Acer.

But I am also considering this Acer for 460 from Argos-
    http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10152&catalogId=13352&langId=111&productId=245510

Not sure if theres better than these two at the price range of 500 euros (from what i can see).
Both same processors ( i3 2330) , Asus 6gig ram/ Acer 4gig ram, Hard drive 500 Asus/ 750 Acer, batterylife good on both apparently (5hours+ on the Asus / 5Hours on the Acer.

    Any opinions which is best?

    This one!:D

    Has an alright GPU.

Look up a few reviews on the 5749. I read a few reviews a while back on Acer 5750s getting abit hot, so I don't recommend them. The 7 series are good though.

    I assume they're the same, 5749/5750.

Not that one Av, although the Graphics card is a plus, the 4 cell battery be a no no for me. Plus i never play games ever, might try footie manager down the line but thats it.

    This Asus - http://komplett.ie/Komplett/product/ZKB_02PC/02_NOTEBOO/21_15/productdetails/80003561/Asus_15_6_K53E_SX1017V_i3_2330M_6GB_500GB/90N3CA1D5H2B36VL133Y/default.aspx

    Has 6 cell battery.More ram.
Thanks for the heads up on the Acer, must read a few more reviews....

Reviews aren't bad actually. Same Laptop on Saveonlaptops is €495. And their is actually stock available!

I'd still get the Asus though.
