you should be fine in security mention to the lads there external hard drive you maybe asked to take em out like a laptop for seperate screening.

All data will be safe and wont be currupted by the scanners.

Simple answer is your hard-drive will be fine and it's content.. Just think of all the laptops that go through airport X-rays everyday. A quick google search brought these different answers.

I would advise the security staff of the hard drives either way just to prevent any grieve.. ;)

I have brought my hard drive (sometimes 2) with me on many many flights. No problem with the data. But DAA security will ask you to have anything with a hard drive out in a tray. I have to put my laptop, kindle and hard drive in a separate tray to my coat/bag/shoes/pocket stuff.

It would still get x-rayed if it gets put in checked in luggage?

I agree but I wouldn't be promoting those prices, they can be had way cheaper on other sites so he would be wasting his time :D
