    Hi,

Can anyone recommend somewhere to snowboard in southern Germany for a begginner.

I'ved looked into Alpspitz Bahn and it looks ok (but what do I know?).

I've only snowbaorded once before and since I'll be in the region a few times over the next few months with work I was thinking of getting lessons and buying a seasonal pass.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

    Hi jimmurt.
Iam originally from Bavaria myself and would say, that with the area around Garmisch you should be ok. Its a bit hard to answer your question, as it very much depends on the snow situation at the given time. In Bavaria the area around the Zugspitze is the safest bet. If there is little snow, your better off going to Austria, Oetztal,or Hintertux, Zillertal, Axamer Lizum, all within 2 hours from Munich. If there is lots of snow all around, the bavarian forest is much cheaper than the alps, but of course not quite as spectacular.

Edit: You dont need to worry about being a beginner, there are always easy beginner slopes in every skiing resort. Its really the snow situation that matters.

Thanks for the info lads. I think I'll go with Oberstdorf as I'll be staying in Ulm. That thread is very usefull as well.

I got in contact with the Ski School in Bad Hindelang. I'm going to do a lesson first and then take it from there.

I have a lot of cold weather gear so won't need to rent much. What I need is:

    Snowboard
    Boots
Goggles (I have sunglasses that I have used before in the snow, will these do or do you have to use snowboarding specific goggles?)

    Am I missing anything?

I always find that sun glasses are ok as long as the sun shines. If its snowing I find goggles better. With both, I am personally always having a problem with tarnish. Probably because I always go for the cheap stuff.
Make sure you have good gloves. I couldn't do without them.

Thanks for all the info. I'm back in Germany this week so I've booked snowboarding lessons with SkiSchule Ostractal in Bad Hindelang.

Should have a few bumps and bruises Saturday night.:pac:

I'd get goggles if you're starting out snowboarding. You're going to fall quite a bit so all you need is one faceplant and you have a pair of broken sunglasses and a very sore face!!

Did the lessons yesterday, really enjoyed the day, definitly true about the importance of having good gloves.:D

Was disapointed that the slopes we were on only had a rope that you held onto to get back up to the top. Was exhausted after using it a few times.

The lessons were ok, I might try out the Ski Club in Kilternan before I go back to Germany again. Has anyone used the slopes there? Is it miles away from the real thing or is it worth a trip?

I want to hit the ground running the next time I'm in Germany,
