Help picking bike for road/light trails/adventure races/multi sports events

Hi,
I am looking for a bike for adventure racing/multisport events and was hoping for some advice.

I was thinking along the lines of getting a cyclocross style bike for races that are on road or light trails & using a mtb for the rough stuff.

Here are the two bikes I'm thinking about:

I'm leaning towards the cheaper one, but not sure if I would regret not spending that bit extra.

Any advice of which bike or an alternative would be greatly appreciated.

Hi newbie? I think the specialized tricross is a great bike, I bought the 2011 model and love it, I used my full sus xc pro on a couple of adventure races last year and although it suited some a tricross would be the man for the likes of the Gael Force events because its a fairly durable bike, make sure you upgrade your tires though!!

Thanks for your reply. Thinking of getting the 24 speed version. Is yours 24 or 27 speed?
