Is there electives?

    Hi,

I was in ucd last september but dropped out. They have electives where you can study other subjects alongside your full time degree subjects.

I am going to apply to NUIG for 2012 to study earth and ocean science.

But I would like to keep up French as well. I spent the last 6 years in secondary school learning it and would hate to forget it. I don't want to study it as a full time heavy subject in university with exams and stuff. I'd just like to continue it and learn at my own pace. I wouldn't mind exams in it though because I would work.

Question: If there is electives in french- is there exams in them and even if I fail them could I still progress with my earth and ocean science degree- it wouldn't affect it?

    Anybody answer my questions? Thanks!

I don't know the specifics of Earth and Ocean courses, but in undenominated science, i know for definite you can choose either German or French (beginners and improvers classes are available) for 2nd and 3rd year as options. I think they count as 12 of your 60 credits (can't remember rightly) among your other modules.

As far as I know the denominated Earth and Ocean Science course lets you choose from a certain amount of modules per year but I don't think any of them are language related.

You could do the French diploma alongside your main course. Results in this wouldn't affect your main degree. You do have to pay to do it though.
