Problem signing up to Google!

I don't really want to but I need to sign up to Google in order to access info in Google groups however I'm having trouble signing up. I've tried going through my existing hotmail account and joining directly but keep being denied because of Google's 'certain age requirements' policy. Bizarre as I typed in my correct DOB…

Bizarre as I typed in my correct DOB and I'm not a kid! So whats wrong? Tried the troubleshooting tips but no joy.

This problem has made me more suspicious of Google but like I said I do need to access this info.
