Hey lads, looking for a bit of advice from those of you that play Ping irons. I was just about to splash the cash and buy a set of G20s. I demoed a few sets in kinsealy and opted for the pings.

However I came across a 2nd set set of G10s at a very good price. So is there a big difference between the two sets? Has anyone upgraded from the G10 to the G20 and noticed a big difference?

On a side note, I tried the new R11 irons and WOW! Absolutely amazing! If only they were cheaper

More expensive? Don't think so,you can get the R11 irons for 369e in Halpennys or Mcgiurks, a lot cheaper than the Pings I would say

€369 for the R11 irons is great value

I'm still very happy with my G5 irons so I think you won't go wrong with either the G10 or G20 (and Taylormades are also good).

I'd go with the clubs that sit best at address for you or else the ones that you can get at the best price.

Just for what its worth, i've the G10s since 2008 now I think, and have had no problems with them. I wouldn't be a big hitter, normally 125 to 130 yds with a 7 iron, however what I do find is that that they would appear to be more 'accurate' than compared to my previous set of callaways, if that is at all possible. On the other hand, my playing partners have hit them on occasions and do not lose any distance.

I removed the 4 & 5 irons from my set and replaced them at a later stage with the 4 & 7 fairway wood options and these easily make up for those second shots that I found to be difficult.

Some advice would be to try if at all possible the different colour code options that are offered by Ping in determining loft. There are various colours assoc. to lofts, eg my set are orange dot which equates to 2 deg. upright if I recall correctly, and they may not suit you so enquire from who you are purchasing from. Secondly, you may want to invest in a gap wedge also. My wedge is 46 deg and the sw is 54deg. and I struggled with leaving those pitch shots either too short or too long.

In my opinion buy the G10s and treat yourself to a new wedge!!

The OP probably has them bought and well used at this stage, for what it's worth I was looking at a set of G15's last year and given a set to try out.

Played out of my skin with them and had intended to bite the bullet and purchase when I was told that there is no difference between the 10's and 15's in the irons. The woods had changed but basically the irons hadn't.
