Mould on seat belt

Was cleaning the car and when I pulled out the seat belt in the back it was covered in mould. Have cleaned it off with mould spray. Girlfriend is due 1st baby in 2 weeks. Will it be safe to have the baby in the car after finding this? Haven't found mould anywhere else. What caused the mould to grow? How can I prevent it from growing back?

    Hi

Vinegar is the best thing to use put some in a spray bottle and spray it, leave it for half an hour and wash it off..... Repeat it 2 days later and it should be gone for good

Thanks I used a special spray for getting rid of mould and it did clean if off although the belt is stained from the mould. Any idea why this grew? The car windows get fogged up very easy and takes ages to clear would this have anything to do with it?

Might spray some vinegar on there to be safe

Cleaned two pretty manky cars recently - no-vac is good (tesco used to have this, homebase too, think the TEAM.ie places are the only ones with it now), Simoniz car disinfectant is very good (got it half price in Tesco)

Thanks any idea why it happened? What we can do to prevent it happening again?

Make sure that the switch for the air flow is in "outside position", not in "internal circulation". Also buy in Motor Factors and replace a cabin or pollen filter. More likely it is blocked/dirty and your car saloon is badly ventilated, so mould grows up. Don't inhale the particles of mould when cleaning. It is not dangerous to get a baby in the car if it is properly cleaned.

Well it won't grow on a clean surface. Was the seatbelt used a bit a while ago and not used much since?
A while back in motors someone posted a car seat, where the arse went was covered in mould, manky.
