I'm thinking of getting a NAS at some point. Can the files on it be accesses by both the Mac OS and Windows (through Parallels) on an iMac? Not ultra techy, so being a bit wary.

Yes, it'd work just like any other hard drive, just wireless.

Thanks. I suppose I'd only be able to access from the Mac side, as the Windows side can't see the wireless card via Parallels. I have a lot of stuff saved onto an external drive (Windows formatted). Would the Mac be able to access that remotely? Sorry for the questions, but I'm new to NAS.

I haven't used parallels in a long time but from what i remember, I had to download an application called macdrive, it allowed me to read the drive that are on the mac. So if the NAS was connected to the mac, i could read the drive in windows.

And with regard to your question, i see no reason why the mac can't connect to the NAS to get remote access.

Here's a useful article, i'm not sure if it's entirely helpful but there are bits that apply to you: here

The Windows installation running on Parallels Desktop will share the underlying network connection. The Parallels VM isn't aware that there is a wireless connection, it knows there is an active network adaptor and uses the driver provided by Parallels.

If you are buying a NAS then carefully consider your options. OS X Lion created problems for quite a few NAS systems.
